Project Engineer – Engineering Services
The purpose of this role is to support our Service team across the country as well as engage directly with customers to provide sound engineering advice. This will entail providing effective and efficient communication on opportunities with customers, energy modelling, solution designs, feasibility studies, and project management.
The incumbent will be responsible for engineering designs in PV, BESS. The role includes both pre-sales (design, presentation, BOQ), and post sales (detailed design, project management, implementation) activities.
Role responsibilities:
Energy Modelling:
- Assist with the design of solar photo-voltaic plants, Battery energy Storage Systems, lighting layouts, equipment selections and building automation in the context of smart environment technology.
- Lead energy audits, capturing data, site visits, optimisation investigations.
- Perform feasibility studies using energy load profile and financial models and tools. Install loggers/meters, take measurements on site (e.g., Lux, noise, vibration, current etc.).
- Support designing holistic solutions for customers.
- Assist with electrical reticulation diagrams, drawings. Assist in managing and improving energy modelling tools and software
- Assist with commissioning, project support and after sales technical support.
Support Functions:
Performance tracking, and energy behaviour analytics on customers. Assist in collecting information to help optimise the operation costs and project value.
Use data to make recommendations on energy and optimisation interventions.
Build out and improving existing energy modelling tools including solar PV, lighting, power quality, energy storage simulations and other energy interventions.
Client Engagement:
- Assist with project support to EPCs (engineering, procurement, and construction companies). BOM, design assistance, etc
- Be familiar with the latest SANS and NERSA regulations and offer advice to customers.
- Assist with SSEG applications for Rubicon projects.
- Gather information from the site in relation to the energy needs (e.g., bills, surveys, photos, investigations).
- Build and grow relationships with contractors and installers.
- Work closely with internal team of sales representatives to develop projects with customers.
Construction:
- Be familiar with operational H&S requirements.
- Have some knowledge on project sureties and insurance related items.
- Understand how to interpret project timelines.
Power Quality Solutions:
- Support the various branches and customers with metering, solution designs, cost optimisation on capital layout and operational costs analysis with feasibility reports.
- Conduct continuous monitoring and reporting.
- Power quality analysis for BESS specification and PQ solutions.
Monitoring Solutions Growth Path Opportunity:
- Opportunity to learn and assist in building the monitoring services division through developing the methodology in the integration of hardware and data analytics solutions to our customers.
- Deep understanding of energy and optimisation analytics and communicating the findings and recommendations verbally and in a written report.
- Develop dynamic dashboards and performance tracking tools for customers.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements:
Required
• B.Eng. degree in Electric/ Electronic /Mechatronic/Mechanical engineering (with 2-3 years’ work experience in the electrical field)
• Strong academic results
Preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ experience
• Business development experience for energy related projects beneficial
• Experience with renewable energy, energy storage or energy efficiency
Preferred Key skills and competencies
• Sound knowledge of energy engineering, project management, business development
• Proven experience in technical sales, communication, project development
• Hands-on experience implementing energy projects
• A deep understanding of renewable energy and power quality
• Up to date with current technology, trends, and best practice in energy engineering
