About the role

Rubicon’s Sustainable Technology Division is scaling rapidly, and we’re looking for experienced Senior Sales Consultants to lead our Lighting and Energy product portfolios. You’ll work closely with customers to develop new business opportunities, qualify leads, drive consultative sales and long term relationships, and execute strategic plans. We’re seeking senior professionals who can operate independently, manage key accounts and help shape our go to market strategy for both Lighting and Energy solutions.

Role Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the overall sales strategy for lighting and energy solutions across commercial, industrial, and residential markets – covering new construction, industrial projects, and retrofits.

• Grow market share by identifying and qualifying prospects, building a robust pipeline, and closing high value opportunities, ensuring all solutions meet customers’ energy efficiency and sustainability goals.

• Build and maintain long term relationships with architects, engineers, consultants, property managers, contractors, and other key decision makers to drive repeat and referral business.

• Collaborate with internal and external teams (design, technical, project execution, and logistics) to prepare specifications, present proposals, negotiate contracts, and manage tender responses, ensuring smooth delivery from design through handover.

• Conduct site assessments and provide high level technical guidance, stay up to date with industry technologies, standards and regulations, and offer credible advice to clients.

• Prepare quotes, proposals and financial models that clearly demonstrate return on investment and support customer decision making.

• Provide attentive after sales support, monitor system performance, identify upsell opportunities, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.

• Maintain a consultative, solutions driven approach to sales, ensuring client needs are at the centre of all engagements.

• Execute against monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets as agreed with the Division Head.

• Create and maintain account plans for key customers; perform regular (weekly, monthly) on site visits to maintain relationships and monitor project development.

• Keep accurate records of customer communications, opportunities and forecast data in company CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, NetSuite).

• Stay abreast of market trends, competitor offerings and regulatory developments in lighting and energy, and share insights with internal teams.

• Attend industry trade shows, conferences and networking events to expand market awareness.

• Mentor junior sales consultants where appropriate, helping them develop product and sales proficiency.

Role Requirements

• Matric/NQF4 equivalent (minimum). A technical or business qualification is advantageous.

• 3–5 years’ demonstrable success in external sales within the sustainable technology sector—ideally managing both lighting and energy products or a closely related technology portfolio.

• Proven track record in building relationships with B2B clients, managing complex sales cycles and consistently meeting or exceeding targets.

• Lighting Solutions: knowledge of commercial/industrial lighting systems, energy efficiency standards and project bid processes.

• Energy Solutions: understanding of solar PV systems, battery storage, inverters, UPS units or other energy technologies, plus ability to perform basic financial analyses (ROI, payback).

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to explain technical concepts clearly and confidently to non technical stakeholders.

• Own vehicle and valid driver’s licence; comfortable travelling to client sites throughout the region.

• A proactive, self managed, entrepreneurial mindset – this is a senior role with significant autonomy and responsibility for revenue growth.
