What is the opportunity? Under the direction of the Finance and Administration Manager, of Water Mission’s Malawi program, the Assistant Accountant will be responsible for preparing financial statements, budgets, processing, and preparing Tax Returns. The role works closely with the Finance and in-country teams. The role will be at Water Mission’s Malawi program offices in Zomba/Mangochi, Malawi.Status: Full-time employment with the opportunity for yearly contractual renewals.As an employee in Water Mission, the Supply Chain Officer is responsible for developing a biblical worldview culture that leads to God-honoring excellence in all work and commit to providing the following: accurate data, developing the skills and mindset needed to acknowledge mistakes or problems as opportunities to find appropriate solutions and work consistently for excellence in solutions that are consistent with Water Mission’s mission, vision, values, and standards. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for: Processing payments for goods and services.Posting accurate financial transactions in the Accounting System Handling petty cash float, including managing disbursements and reviewing supporting documents.Reconciling staff cash advances to ensure proper accountability of funds. Ensuring that all staff adhere to financial policies and procedures. Timely remittance of tax returns to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).Submitting statutory payments and returns to regulatory bodies in a timely manner.Reconciling payable accounts. Reconciling bank accounts with cash books monthly Preparing monthly balance sheet schedules for review by the Finance and Administration Manager on a timely basis. Maintaining the Fixed Assets Registers Conducting quarterly physical inventory counts and investigate variances with system inventory. Preparing the financial information required for internal and external audits. Responding to audit queries. Filling financial documents systematically. Any other duties as assigned. What is required? Impeccable level of integrity in handling Donor funds in an accountable and transparent manner. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or any equivalent accounting qualification Must be a registered member with ICAM. Good working knowledge of relevant International Accounting standards, GAAPs, IPSAS.At least 3 years of experience in Financial Management.Experience working with International Non-Government Organization is preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including articulating ideas and feedback constructively. Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint) and hands-on experience in an accounting information system preferably NetSuite accounting system. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
