Are you a hands-on, disciplined, and safety-conscious individual passionate about fish farming?

We are seeking a Mortality Master to coordinate the timely collection, handling, recording, and disposal of fish mortalities from assigned cages.

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate mortality data, ensuring biosecurity and safety protocols, and coordinating lake fish-handling activities efficiently.

This role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and commitment to fish welfare and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mortality Collection

• Collect all visible and accessible fish mortalities from assigned cages daily.

• Check mortality bags and ensure they are collected/emptied as required.

• Coordinate with divers to recover bottom mortalities where applicable.

• Handle mortalities carefully to prevent loss, double counting or misidentification.

2. Mortality Recording and Data Accuracy

• Accurately record mortality numbers and/or weight for each cage.

• Verify that cage codes correspond correctly with mortality records.

• Report unusual increases in mortality immediately to the supervisor.

• Maintain complete and accurate daily mortality records for assigned cages.

3.Team Coordination

• Work closely with the assigned diver, feeders, net exchange team and other Mort Clerks.

• Follow the daily cage allocation and agreed zoning system.

• Ensure assigned cages are covered within the required working period.

•Coordinate workload redistribution when operational circumstances require it.

4. Cage Inspection and Fish Observation

• Observe cages/fish during mortality collection for abnormal conditions.

• Report excessive mortalities, abnormal fish behaviour, damaged nets, escapes, predator activity and other concerns.

• Escalate unusual findings promptly to the relevant supervisor.

5. Mortality Disposal

• Transfer collected mortalities to the designated collection/disposal point.

• Follow approved procedures for weighing, counting, transportation and disposal.

• Ensure mortalities are not returned to the lake or feeding areas.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum of a High School Diploma

Knowledge and skills:

• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Team coordination and communication
• Knowledge of cage-farm operations
• Basic mortality data recording and reporting
• Biosecurity awareness
• Safety awareness and compliance
• Ability to work in a lake/cage-farm environment
• Problem identification and timely escalation
