About the role

UpEnergy is experiencing an exciting phase of growth and rapid expansion. To support this momentum, we are seeking an impact-driven and detail-oriented Carbon Operations Officer to join our Carbon Team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in planning and conducting field activities, verifying data, supporting the carbon credit lifecycle, and ensuring the integrity of our carbon operations across markets and mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support throughout the registration, validation, verification and issuance processes of carbon projects.
  • Carry out MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) activities through sampling, enumerator training, progress tracking, review of monitoring results and field test data, finalization of results, plan site audit, etc to adhere to quality and timeline.
  • Support verification audit through planning logistics, ensuring availability and co-operation of beneficiary households and provide necessary documentation for desk review.
  • Support the planning and execution of baseline studies and field tests. Review and finalize study reports within the stipulated timeline.
  • Assist the process of QC calling by co-ordinating with Calling Agents and Data team. Ensure the verification of distribution is carried out as per carbon project requirements and standard procedures.
  • Conduct local stakeholder consultation as per the project need by co-ordinating with Project Leads and Carbon point of contacts. Initiate feedback rounds and support finalize the LSC reports.
  • Coordinate effectively with local agencies, NGOs, and government authorities to facilitate stakeholder activities and ensure smooth project operations.
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of various capacity building and process training sessions for cross-functional teams, including distribution and country operations, on a regular basis or according to organizational needs.
  • Keep standard templates, forms, and supporting documents consistently updated for surveys and carbon reporting. Safeguard all tools and equipment used during fieldwork, collaborate with relevant teams to plan new purchases, and ensure scheduled calibration is performed as required.
  • Assist in the development, training, and ensure adoption of different carbon related procedures (SoPs) for different functions to help them align for smooth operations and an efficient carbon program.
  • Taking part in coordination and review meetings at UpEnergy Group, engaging both with the carbon team and other teams within the organisation.
  • Support the coordination of other field activities as requested and as guided by management. Activities here may include supporting due diligence exercises, research studies among others.
  • Support the finance and operations team in completing annual carbon budgets and monitor the allocation and spending of budgets for various field activities.

Does This Sound Like You?

Must-Have Qualifications & Experience

  • A University Graduate or Postgraduate in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in research, social/development sector, or climate-related projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office suite like Word and PowerPoint presentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Capable of recruiting and overseeing a small group of field enumerators during MRV operations.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Working knowledge of carbon project MRV and familiar with GS/VERRA/Article 6 registries for distributed technology especially cookstoves and water purifiers.
  • Experience in conducting monitoring surveys and field tests like WBT, KPT and CCT, etc.
  • Experience in survey form development and management (familiar with ONA collect, SurveyCTO among other mobile data collection platforms).
