About the role:

UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, and rapid expansion which requires an impact-driven and experienced Data Operations Manager to support the Data Team.

The interested candidates should have a strong understanding of Database Management Systems (DBMS) and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) methodologies, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and hand-ons customer service experience. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the collection, analysis, and reporting of data for our country office. This role shall report to the Country Director and closely work with country team/country leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement database systems to store and manage data, including the development of data dictionaries and data entry protocols
  • Manage a diverse team of data associates, quality assurance officers, call centre teams, and external consultants.
  • Manage team performance and provide guidance and support to team members
  • Develop and maintain frameworks and indicators for data collection and analysis to measure program impact and effectiveness.
  • Ensure quality of carbon data and M&E processes and align team with standard processes
  • Conduct data analysis to inform program planning and decision-making
  • Maintain and update data collection and analysis frameworks as needed
  • Develop and produce reports and dashboards to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide training and support to staff on data management and M&E processes.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to ensure data quality and integrity
  • Report on periodical basis to the Carbon team on the progress of country data operations
  • Closely work with Global Carbon Team and Country Carbon Team
  • Lead data quality assurance and provide support in data quality control reporting working closely with the Carbon Operations Manager and the Carbon Officer
  • Manage quality control of data processing to ensure completeness of data for further processing for Carbon
  • Support MIS functions within the company. This may include providing input for the design, set-up and management of MIS system.

Does this sound like you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in data operations, data analytics, or related roles.
  • At least 2-3 years in a supervisory or managerial position overseeing data teams.
  • Experience with large datasets, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, data integration, data quality processes.
  • Prior exposure to designing and implementing data governance, data architecture, or data management frameworks.
  • Proficiency with database technologies (SQL, NoSQL), data warehousing, and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with data engineering tools and platforms, cloud services
  • Experience with data quality tools, monitoring dashboards, data pipelines (ETLs), logging and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance (GDPR‐like policies, local data protection laws, etc.)
  • Strong leadership and team-management skills; ability to mentor, coach, and build capable data operations teams.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Very good communication skills: ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.
  • Attention to detail and high standard of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) and the requirements around handling personal data.

Nice to have:

  • A Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., in data management, analytics, data governance, project management) are a plus.
