UpEnergy Group (www.upenergygroup.com) brings aspirational products that save energy and improve health within reach of low-income customers. We develop distribution channels that sell efficient and clean energy technologies, primarily efficient cookstoves and finance our growth through bespoke projects that generate carbon emissions reductions that we market and sell to global partners.

We sell products under our SmartHome brand and through partnerships with other brands. We operate regional distribution hubs and build relationships with retailers, and directly with customers, through the SmartHome sales operation. We’ve seen 100% year on year growth for two straight years and reached over 250,000 new African households last year with products that save each family we reach about 9% of their annual income while reducing air pollution.

UpEnergy has a 10-year track record of building projects that outperform expectations on the generation of emissions reductions, and that deliver on our energy savings promise to LMIC customers. We are one of the largest compliance credit project developers globally, focused on projects that alleviate poverty with a team that has a collective 50 years of experience in climate finance and is at the forefront of Paris-era project finance.

About the Role:

UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, and rapid expansion which is why we require an impact-driven and analytical Accountant to support the Finance Team. The accountant will report directly to the Finance Manager- Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Finance manager during annual financial audits and any other Periodic audits
  • Working closely with the Nigeria Finance team to ensure smooth running of operations
  • Examining bank statements and reconciling them with general ledger entries
  • Examining expenses submitted by employees
  • Keeping an eye on incoming payments from accounts receivable and outgoing payments from accounts payable
  • Preparing Payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  • Creating company financial reports with all the necessary information included
  • Analyzing data collected in order to determine the state of the company’s financial health
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement improvements to processes
  • Maintaining customer confidence and protecting operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Working with the Finance Team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Perform general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting.
  • Managing accounts and ensuring all transactions balances out and all books are up to date
  • Managing payment of statutory deductions like tax, pension and NHF.
  • Any other financial duties that may come up from time to time.

Does this sound like you?

  • Skilled in accounting, with working knowledge of Quick books
  • Minimum academic qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any finance or accounting field
  • Exceptional ability to collaborate, influence, and execute against strategy
  • At least 3+ years of experience in accounting
  • Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA is an added advantage
  • Excellent communication skills (clear and concise) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in auditing
  • Innovative mind‐set oriented toward constructive problem‐solving and collaboration with stakeholders from various sectors
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and ability to multi‐task and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work independently, a self-starter that is excited to work in frontier markets
  • Proactive problem solver who initiates troubleshooting to keep the project on track
  • Excitement to help a high impact start-up launch operations in a new market
