The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with member States and international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity. The Associate Programme Management Officer will operate in the framework of the "Resilient Mountains” project including its “Adaptation at Altitude" and “Mountains Adapt” components and other related activities focusing on the nexus between nature and climate action in mountain ecosystems and will contribute in providing assistance in support of the implementation of the aforementioned project (components) and related activities with a particular focus on the East African region and other tropical mountain ecosystems across the world, also closely liaising with UNEP´s relevant Divisions and other partners within the UN system. This post is located in the Biodiversity, People and Landscapes Unit in the Biodiversity and Land Branch (BLB), Ecosystems Division, at the Nairobi duty station. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer (Mountain Team Leader), the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
