The Finance Operations & Enablement Manager leads the Finance Operations & Enablement team for the Great Plains Division, providing centralized accounting, reporting, financial planning support, private award administration, and finance operations services. In this role, you will drive operational excellence through standardized processes, continuous improvement, and talent development while strengthening financial stewardship, organizational effectiveness, and high-quality finance service delivery across the Division.
Finance Operations Leadership
- Lead the Finance Operations & Enablement team, ensuring high-quality, timely, and consistent delivery of accounting, reporting, financial planning support, and award administration services across multiple Pods/Business Units (BUs).
- Establish service standards, priorities, workflows, performance metrics, and accountability mechanisms that support organizational needs.
- Monitor operational performance and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, service quality, and stakeholder experience.
Finance Process Ownership & Continuous Improvement
- Develop, implement, and maintain standardized finance processes, procedures, controls, and service models in collaboration with finance leaders across Divisions.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that simplify work, improve compliance, reduce risk, and/or increase organizational capacity.
- Identify and implement opportunities for automation, system optimization, and scalable service delivery.
- Promote consistent adoption of finance policies, SOPs, reporting standards, and best practices.
Financial Operations, Reporting & Planning Enablement
- Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budget and forecast support processes, private award financial administration, and year-end financial activities.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, consistency, and timeliness of financial data, reporting, and operational processes.
- Support organizational decision-making by ensuring reliable financial information, reporting tools, and planning resources are available to finance and business leaders.
- Monitor financial and operational trends, risks, and performance indicators and recommend corrective actions when needed.
Finance Expertise & Stakeholder Partnership
- Serve as a finance operations subject matter expert and escalation point for complex financial, accounting, reporting, and process-related issues.
- Partner with Finance Directors, Finance Managers, Operations leaders, Development staff, central Finance staff, and other stakeholders to strengthen financial stewardship and operational effectiveness.
- Develop training, documentation, and knowledge resources that build finance capability and promote consistent practices across the division.
- Support organizational initiatives, system implementations, and change management efforts impacting finance operations.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Recruit, coach, develop, and manage a high-performing team of finance professionals and specialists.
- Foster a culture of accountability, customer service, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Build OET organizational capability through employee development, succession planning, knowledge sharing, and cross-training.
- Leads a centralized Finance Operations & Enablement function providing accounting, reporting, planning support, award administration, and finance enablement services across multiple Pods/BUs.
- Accountable for service quality, operational performance, process effectiveness, compliance, and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Influences finance practices, standards, and operational consistency across the Division and in partnership with other Divisions.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts on TNC’s central Finance team to interpret finance policies, resolve complex operational issues, and recommend process and service improvements.
- Operates with broad latitude in prioritizing work, allocating resources, managing team performance, and implementing solutions that improve organizational effectiveness.
The preferred location for the Finance Operations & Enablement Manager is within the Great Plains Division.

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Finance Operations & Enablement Manager to lead centralized finance operations for the Great Plains Division, including accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting support, private award administration, and finance capability development. This is an opportunity to shape consistent finance practices, strengthen operational effectiveness, and support mission-driven outcomes across a multi-state, matrixed organization.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with computer and information management systems, Excel spreadsheets and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and/or financial reports.
- Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff.
- Experience leading process improvement, operational excellence, or finance transformation initiatives.
- Experience developing budgets, performing high-level financial analysis, and recommending corrective action as appropriate.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and finance operations.
- Experience supporting multi-state, multi-business-unit, or matrixed organizations.
- Experience with shared-service or centralized finance operating models.
- Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles, practices and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting.
Salary Information:
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $83,000 - $121,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
