TNC Latin America Region (LAR) works in 9 countries—from Mexico’s Baja California to Argentina’s Patagonia—using scientific expertise, pragmatic approaches and partnerships with local communities, Indigenous peoples, businesses, and governments to protect and better manage the region’s natural resources and to transform the way people use and value nature. This is increasingly urgent as the region will play a pivotal role in meeting unprecedented global demand for food, water, and energy.

The Director of Program Implementation, Latin America is responsible for delivering the regional conservation portfolio by ensuring that country programs, projects, resources, and governance systems are aligned to achieve TNC's regional conservation strategy and global 2030 Goals. In partnership with the Conservation and Science Director, who leads conservation strategy and scientific priorities, this role focuses on execution, organizational alignment, performance management, and the effective implementation of conservation investments across the region.

This is a senior position at TNC and within the Latin American Region and is a member of the Latin America Leadership Team. The position will report to the Latin America Regional Managing Director and will supervise the Country Directors. The role is designed for a high potential professional who combines strong judgment, curiosity, and learning agility with a deep commitment to collaboration and impact.

We’re Looking for You:

The Director will enable shared accountability across LAR by balancing two roles of the regional office: ensuring Business Units’ accountability for implementation commitments, operational performance, talent management, governance, fiduciary responsibilities for delivery of agreed regional priorities, while also creating the conditions, support, and coordination needed for their success.

The role helps LAR operate as an integrated system that is united around shared priorities, operating standards, delivery expectations, and accountability mechanisms, while preserving the autonomy, flexibility, and local decision-making needed for Business Units to succeed in their unique contexts. They will work with country leadership to support alignment between strategy, governance and funding realities to advance effective and efficient implementation. They will work with the Regional Managing Director to help navigate the complexity inherent in the mission with clarity and coherence.

What You Will Do

Strategic Alignment

• Supervise Country Directors and support the evolution and implementation of country strategies and program/project plans in alignment with the strategic direction established by the Conservation and Science Director.

• Ensure country portfolios implement the conservation outcomes, indicators, and MEL frameworks established by the Conservation and Science function, while maintaining effective performance monitoring, reporting, and delivery management systems across the region.

• Provide consolidated insights from countries regarding implementation progress, delivery challenges, resource needs, and operational opportunities to inform regional conservation strategy, prioritization, and resource allocation decisions led by the Conservation and Science Director.

• Strengthen the flow of communication and trust between BUs, the Regional Office, and global teams.

Program implementation

• Serve as a strategic partner to Country Directors

• Monitor implementation performance against approved plans, budgets, and commitments, escalating risks and recommending corrective actions when needed.

• Draw synergies and coordinate solutions across functions and teams, identifying delivery challenges against critical objectives in a timely way

• Support and partner in fundraising efforts

Organizational Effectiveness & Culture

• Improve organizational effectiveness and strengthen the region’s operating model by clarifying roles, decision rights, governance mechanisms, and interdependencies across Business Units, regional teams, and global functions.

• Support standardization and streamlining of processes to enable more agile implementation while reflecting the diversity across the region.

• Support Country Directors and regional leaders in adopting leadership practices that strengthen trust, transparency, inclusion, and accountability across the organization.

• Foster Cultura Viva through shared accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, promoting an environment for agency and ways of working that enable both regional alignment and local autonomy.

Integrated Planning, Governance & Accountability

• With support from the Conservation and Science Director, lead an integrated regional planning process that aligns country priorities, implementation plans, budgets, talent, and fundraising strategies with regional objectives and conservation priorities.

• Coordinate the implementation of regional resource allocation decisions, ensuring alignment among operating plans, budgets, staffing, fundraising commitments, and organizational capacity

• Facilitate cross-country planning and prioritization processes to support transparency, trade-off discussions, and effective allocation of regional resources.

• Promote sound financial stewardship and operational discipline across Business Units, ensuring leaders understand and fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities and manage resources in accordance with TNC policies, donor commitments, and legal requirements.

• Work with BU Directors to ensure appropriate governance, risk management, compliance, and decision-making practices are in place to support long-term organizational effectiveness and sustainability.

Lead with a System Perspective

• Partner with the RMD to explore scenarios, surface risks and opportunities, and support thoughtful, timely decision‑making.

• Actively identify opportunities to simplify, clarify roles, and reduce friction across the system.

• Lead the Regional Implementation Team, the governance body that represents country leadership.

Success in this role is measured not only by what is delivered, but by how the region works better as a system—and by the leader you become through the experience.
