Background:
The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through a combination of grant making, fellowships, transformational research, technical assistance, coalition building and advocacy the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change, and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development.
Purpose:
As the ACF grows and our Communications needs expand, we are seeking a junior-to mid-level Graphic Designer, to strengthen our visual storytelling and support the delivery of impactful, brand-aligned content. This role is essential in ensuring consistency across all internal and external materials, helping to build recognition and trust in our brand. With increasing demand for digital assets, the designer will play a key role in supporting our mission through compelling design and digital media outputs, with design and digital storytelling as strategic levers for influencing climate narratives across Africa.
Reporting to the Senior Communications Officer and be part of the Communications team.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Design and production:
- Following an existing corporate identity and brand guide, create visually compelling designs for a range of materials, including reports, social media graphics and multimedia content.
- Ensure strict adherence to ACF’s brand identity guidelines and proactively suggest improvements to strengthen visual consistency across platforms.
- Provide templates, style guides, and quick-reference toolkits for staff to use when external design support is not available.
- Respond to requests from various ACF departments for design and production outputs.
- Design materials for high-level events, donor engagements, and advocacy campaigns, ensuring cultural relevance and audience resonance.
Collaboration and support:
- Work closely with the Communications teams to understand design requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Assist in the development of creative concepts and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
Content creation:
- Produce digital content such as infographics and videos to enhance online engagement.
- Explore emerging design formats (motion graphics, interactive content, short-form video, etc.) to broaden engagement with different audiences.
Project Management:
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to deadlines.
Quality Assurance:
- Review and proof designs to ensure accuracy and quality before final approval.
- Stay updated with design trends and best practices to continuously improve design outputs.
Requirements include but are not limited to:
- A Degree or Diploma in relevant graphic or multimedia design.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant, professional experience working as a Graphic Designer, with a portfolio.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and related programmes like Canva etc.
- Basic knowledge of video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects) is an advantage.
- Familiarity with web design principles and tools (e.g. WordPress) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to incorporate feedback effectively.
- Creative thinker with a passion for design and storytelling.
- Adaptable and open to learning new skills and techniques.
- Commitment to the organisation's values and mission.
- Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and pan-African contexts.
- Understanding of climate, development, or social justice issues is an advantage.
- Experience preparing content for both print and digital platforms (reports, websites, social media campaigns).
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
Start date: Position available immediately
Contract duration: 12 months (renewable based on mutual agreement)
Location: ACF’s operational hub is in Cape Town, South Africa. Remote working will be considered for candidates based on the African continent.
