About the role:

SunCulture is seeking a committed and passionate Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Associate, who will be responsible for supporting SunCulture Kenya Limited’s commitment to maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally sustainable workplace. The role involves implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs across all operations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and fostering a culture of safety and sustainability within the organization.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor compliance with Kenya’s occupational health, safety, and environmental laws, as well as industry-specific regulations.

  • Prepare and submit required HSE reports to regulatory authorities and ensure corrective actions are taken to address non-compliance issues.

HSE Program Implementation

  • Develop and execute comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs tailored to SunCulture’s operations.

  • Ensure company-wide adherence to HSE policies and procedures, including training employees on HSE standards and best practices.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation

  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and environmental impacts in SunCulture’s operations.

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.

HSE Incidents Coordination

  • Coordinate HSE Incident management in coordination with relevant teams to implement corrective and preventive measures

  • Respond promptly to workplace accidents, incidents, or near-misses, conducting thorough investigations to identify root causes.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans to address potential health, safety, and environmental emergencies.

  • Coordinate regular drills and training sessions to ensure employee preparedness.

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and maintain HSE data, including injury rates, environmental performance metrics, and audit findings.

  • Provide monthly reports to the Head of ESG, highlighting key trends, compliance status, and recommendations for improvement.

Employee Engagement and Training

  • Conduct HSE training sessions and workshops for employees and contractors to raise awareness and encourage adherence to safety and environmental practices.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, ensuring all employees understand their role in maintaining a safe and sustainable workplace.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated on emerging HSE trends, technologies, and best practices relevant to SunCulture’s industry.

  • Propose and implement enhancements to existing HSE policies, programs, and systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent.

  • Registered OSH Auditor with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in HSE management, preferably in the renewable energy, agriculture, or manufacturing sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of Kenya’s HSE regulations and international safety standards.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to management.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with employees, contractors, and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
