What you would be expected to do

Hire, retain, and motivate the entire regional team for exceptional performance
The Regional Business Manager’s team typically consists of Area Business Managers, Sun King Executives, Regional Mentors, Customer Experience Executives, and Energy Officers (there may be some variations based on the region). RBMs are expected to build high-performing teams in their regions that are disciplined, process-oriented, and dedicated to delivering the best customer experience.
Train: Provide training to the ABMs and Energy Officers on various aspects of the business, including sales, collections, product knowledge, technical skills, inventory, and logistics. Ensure they receive full guidance and are managed in the most professional manner, demonstrating the highest levels of integrity, ethics, and professionalism while engaging with Sun King customers.
Provide role clarity to ABMs, Regional Mentors, Sun King Store Executives, Customer Experience Associates, and Area Retail Coordinators:
Ensure the regional team has clear direction regarding their daily tasks, sales and collection plans, routes, and targets. This includes making sure the sales team has a predefined sales route/area, is equipped to demonstrate and sell Sun King products, is well-prepared to address and resolve basic customer queries on the spot, and has access to the Regional Business Manager for any questions or concerns.
Field visits: Have a weekly touchpoint with every ABM and the top 10 Energy Officers in each area—through in-person meetings, joint sales, or calls. Address and resolve any issues faced by the Energy Officers and report them to the Regional Business Manager weekly. Ensure that the first 10 sales of each ABM are completed alongside the Regional Business Manager and some Energy Officers to ensure clarity on the core sales and collection process.
Conduct joint fieldwork with ABMs: Work alongside a group of Energy Officers to provide hands-on sales and collection training on a weekly basis while enhancing engagement. Activities include night activations, market activations, and community outreach, such as engaging with SACCOs, self-help groups, retail centers, and markets to facilitate group sales.
Achieve sales and collection targets: Meet or exceed sales and collection targets established and confirmed on the 2nd of every month with the sales team. Provide daily and weekly updates on sales, EO recruitment, customer concerns, resolutions, and new area launch preparations, as outlined with the Manager.
Implement structured field sales processes: Review sales and collection progress with ABMs daily and provide necessary training to improve collections in designated areas. This includes customer and area profiling, ensuring timely collection follow-ups, addressing customer concerns to facilitate payments, and as a last resort, repossessing systems in case of default.
Stay externally informed: Monitor market trends in the region and take proactive steps to strengthen and expand Sun King’s presence. Keep the team informed of external factors that could impact business operations and implement strategies to maintain Sun King’s strong brand position in solar products.
Resolve customer concerns: Ensure excellent service for customers regarding product delivery, payment training, installation, and after-sales support. Work with Energy Officers to establish clear expectations and processes to resolve all customer issues within 24 hours.
Manage marketing and operational expenses effectively: Provide necessary marketing resources and essential equipment (such as smartphones) across all areas. Ensure optimal returns on investment for marketing, supply chain, store maintenance, and technology distribution.
Conduct regular review meetings: Ensure ABMs conduct periodic meetings and reviews with all Energy Officers under their supervision. Conduct unannounced visits to field meetings and operational areas to verify that sales processes and standards are upheld at the highest level. Recognize outstanding performance and maintain engagement across the regional team.
Expand retail presence: Work with Area Retail Coordinators to grow the retail network within designated areas. Ensure all retail-related activities are executed per company processes, fostering a strong base of high-performing retailers within the region.

You might be a strong candidate if you:

About Sun King

Sun King is the world’s leading off-grid solar energy company, combining cutting-edge product design, fintech, and field operations to deliver energy access for the 1.8 billion people who live without an affordable and reliable electric-grid connection. Sun King has connected more than 20 million homes to solar power across Africa and Asia, adding over 200,000 homes each month.
Sun King makes solar products affordable to low-income households and businesses via ‘pay-as-you-go’ purchase financing. Sun King installs solar after customers pay a small deposit. Customers then make small, manageable payments of as little as US $0.11 a day via mobile money or cash.
Instead of paying for expensive, polluting, and health-damaging kerosene for lighting or diesel for power, customers unlock savings through accessing solar power and after one to two years of payments, customers own their solar equipment outright. To date, our Sun King solar products have saved customers more than $4 billion cumulatively.

Sun King collects payments digitally through mobile money systems and its 28,000 field agents — over 650,000 payments each day. Embedded electronics inside each Sun King device regulate usage based on payments, similar to the operation of a pre-paid mobile or electricity meter.
From cost-effective solar systems that provide home lighting and phone charging to robust solar inverters that can power high-energy appliances such as laptops, computers, refrigerators, and more, effectively acting as a full stand-in for grid power, Sun King’s products cater to a wide range of income segments and energy needs. Leveraging its proven distribution network and brand, Sun King is expanding its range of products and services to encompass clean cooking, electric mobility, entertainment, and more, aiming to address the needs of our underserved customers.

Sun King employs 2,800 full-time staff in 12 countries, with specialties spanning product design, data science, logistics, customer service, sales, software, operations, and more — all with a passion to serve off-grid families.
Sun King is committed to gender diversity in the workplace. Women represent 44% of Sun King’s workforce.
