Role Purpose

This role is responsible for the end-to-end incubation of new energy initiatives—from validating the initial business case and identifying Target Groups (TG) to managing the commercial rollout. You will be the boots on the ground, ensuring we find the right product-market fit before scaling these ventures across our target markets.

Key Accountabilities

  • Market Discovery & Strategy: Identify and validate specific Target Groups and market segments within the distributed energy space in Africa.
  • Business Case Development: Build and present robust financial and operational business cases for new energy products or services.
  • Product Incubation: Collaborate with technical teams to define and refine the "right" product based on local market feedback and demand.
  • Commercial Execution: Lead the end-to-end commercial process, including pilot launches, customer acquisition, and early-stage revenue management.
  • Project Monitoring: Plan, implement, and monitor functional activities to ensure milestones are met within the assigned market.
  • Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with local regulatory bodies, partners, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and achieve shared goals.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on project progress and market insights

Experience

  • Industry Expertise: Relevant experience in the distributed energy systems industry (e.g., Solar, Mini-grids, or Energy Storage).
  • Proven Track Record: Experience in companies with a strong energy footprint is highly preferred.
  • Incubation Experience: Prior experience in building a business line from scratch, including market entry and finding product-market fit.
  • Regional Exposure: Experience working in structured, process-driven environments within high-growth African markets

Capabilities

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to work independently, take ownership of a "Special Project," and drive it to commercial success.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to navigate the complexities of local energy markets and infrastructure.
  • Commercial Acumen: Deep understanding of financial modeling, pricing strategies, and sales funnels.
  • Adaptability: Proactive and open to change, with the agility to pivot strategies based on pilot results.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to act as the primary face of Spiro for new initiatives in-country.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree: In Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or a relevant technical field.
  • Professional Development: Certifications in Renewable Energy, Project Management, or Finance are an advantage.
