Role Purpose
The Procurement Lead – Indirect Purchase is a mid-senior leadership role responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement of indirect goods and services essential for the Energy organization’s growth. This role ensures cost-efficiency, quality, and timely delivery of critical infrastructure components and services—ranging from site deployment CAPEX to on-ground manpower—to support our rapidly expanding distributed network.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Sourcing: Develop and execute procurement strategies for indirect categories including
site deployment CAPEX, CCTV systems, internet services, solar and energy systems and facility
management.
Vendor Management: Identify, vet, and manage relationships with high-quality vendors and
service providers to ensure reliable support for distributed infrastructure.
Manpower Procurement: Lead the sourcing and contracting of on-ground manpower and
outsourced service providers across diverse geographic regions.
Contract Negotiation: Lead high-value negotiations to optimize costs while ensuring adherence
to organizational standards and service level agreements (SLAs).
Compliance & Risk: Ensure all indirect procurement activities comply with relevant regulatory,
safety, and quality requirements across multiple markets.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with the Energy team and Head of Energy to align
procurement activities with project timelines and budgetary goals.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, procurement logs, and cost-benefit
reports to provide visibility into indirect spend
Experience
• 15+ Years of Seniority: Extensive background in procurement, with at least 15 years of
experience focusing on indirect spend and service categories.
• Pan-African Infrastructure: Proven track record in the Telecom, Renewables or distributed
services industry with a deep understanding of the logistical and regulatory nuances of
operating in Africa.
• Regional Market Mastery: Demonstrated experience managing procurement across diverse
African markets, with a focus on navigating local import/export challenges and "last-mile"
delivery constraints.
• Vendor Ecosystem Development: Success in building and
qualifying a robust network of local vendors and service providers in
markets with fragmented supply chains.
• Startup Agility: Experience working in a structured yet fast-paced,
process-driven environment where rapid scaling is required
Capabilities
• Local Market Intelligence: Deep knowledge of African vendor landscapes for technical services
like CCTV, internet connectivity, and site civil works.
• Negotiation & Cultural Nuance: Strong interpersonal skills to manage diverse stakeholders and
negotiate effectively within various African business cultures.
• Resilience in Execution: Ability to proactively solve "ground-level" bottlenecks, such as
equipment clearing, local permitting, or manpower availability.
• Asset & Risk Control: High attention to detail in monitoring vendor performance and ensuring
asset security across distributed sites.
• Adaptable Leadership: Ability to work independently to build a procurement function from the
ground up in a high-growth startup context.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree: In Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a
related field
MBA is a plus
