Position: ESG Manager

Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Key Responsibilities

  • ESIA & Due Diligence:
  • Lead local and IFC Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), and related due diligence for Spiro’s projects across Rwanda and beyond.
  • Provide technical expertise on ESIA/ESMP, sustainability risk management, and global best practices (e.g., IFC Performance Standards).
  • Reporting & Monitoring:
  • Prepare weekly and monthly ESIA status reports.
  • Implement and oversee the Environmental & Social Management System (ESMS), aligned with corporate policies.
  • Manage E&S performance data via the EHS dashboard for all operational countries.
  • Training & Capacity Building:
  • Train ESG team members on E&S performance management.
  • Coordinate implementation of site and office E&S plans.
  • Support ESG/CSR teams in writing GRI-compliant annual reports and Spiro Foundation communications.
  • M&A & Advisory Support:
  • Coordinate environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) during M&A activities via third-party consultants.
  • Contribute to negotiating Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAP).
  • Policy & Governance:
  • Assist the Group Chief ESG Officer in developing ESG policies, KPIs, procedures, and audit mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with audit and compliance heads on labour and E&S KPIs.
  • Spiro Foundation & Project Management:
  • Support the Spiro Foundation in fundraising and program implementation.
  • Manage multi-site E&S projects, tracking timelines, budgets, and stakeholder approvals.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Technical Competency:
  • Strong understanding of IFC Performance Standards, ESIA/ESMP processes, and E&S regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience in managing ESG and sustainability programs in fast-paced environments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of local and international permit application processes.
  • Analytical & Reporting Skills:
  • Proficiency in data analysis and management (Excel, EHS dashboards).
  • Experienced in preparing GRI-aligned sustainability reports.
  • Communication & Leadership:
  • Outstanding English communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven ability to train, lead and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong leadership, with a “can-do” attitude and cultural sensitivity.
  • Highly organized, resilient, and able to work independently under tight deadlines.
  • Technical Tools:
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
