Job Description

The driver is a key part of SNV logistics team and needs to be enthusiastic person who is reliable and experienced with driving on all terrains. The driver is expected to be able to carry out vehicle maintenance and drive safely as a vital part of the job. The drivers will support and facilitate SNV operations in the country and field locations (Torit and Yambio), they will be responsible and accountable for the vehicles assigned to them to drive. They are expected to maintain it in the best possible condition.

Reporting to the Country Operations Officer, the driver will be able to discharge the following but not limited to;

  1. Vehicle operations and Safety. Have end responsibility for use of car, clean and fuel vehicle, check inventory (e.g. first aid kit, second tire etc.) and status of the vehicle, identify any damage and report these to supervisor, arrange and keep track of periodical service schedule and insurance. Clean and safe vehicle ready for use.
  2. Driving. Drive passengers or deliver errands within the identified areas, following the traffic regulations, safety instructions and situations and based on the travel arrangements of the passengers and/or delivery requirements. Safe driving resulting in timely arrival of passengers/goods at destination.
  3. Technical Maintenance. Regularly check and maintain the main maintenance areas (e.g. oil, tire pressure etc.), identify technical malfunctions, check potential repair alternatives, conduct repairs to the vehicles and/or send for repair, in consultation with the supervisor in case of complex and/or costly repair. Safe vehicles and cost conscience and sustainable reparations of technical malfunctions.
  4. Administration. Keep vehicle logbooks of all driving activities, fuel and any incidents and accidents. Ensure insurances and taxes of vehicles are up to date. Up to date vehicle administration.
  5. Additional activities. Execute activities to support others based on request, like assisting in logistics activities, or minor support in maintenance of building. Support of other staff.
  6. Security and communication. Ensure the vehicle VHF radio is in a good working condition. Maintain regular radio communication with the base station while travelling away from the base.
  7. Observe and adhere to traffic regulations of the program area (South Sudan).
  8. Observe and ensure adherence with security guidelines of South Sudan.
  9. Assist operations officer and program staff in gathering security information analysis especially pertaining to enroute to be travelled.
  10. Any other relevant duties as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with all classes.
  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience as a driver with an NGO.
  • At least Secondary school certificate.
  • Certificate in Auto Mechanics
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance, with experience as a vehicle mechanic.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Language skills: English and South Sudanese Arabic.
  • Interpersonal qualities: Reliable, Responsible, works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure in a professional manner.
