About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
As an MRP Controller, you will play a key role in keeping parts moving through New Parts, Repair, Assembly and Testing operations. Using SAP and Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) systems, you will monitor production requirements, work in progress, inventory and capacity to ensure components progress through the right processes at the right time.
You will work closely with Cell Management, Engineering, Material Control, Purchasing, Logistics, Shipping and Warehouse teams to identify anything that could disrupt the production plan. This could mean chasing a critical subcontract operation, resolving a material shortage, highlighting a machine or capacity constraint, or correcting system data that does not reflect what is happening in production.
This is a hands-on production control role in a complex manufacturing and repair environment, with responsibility for maintaining accurate digital information associated with more than £8 million of inventory. You will need to be comfortable balancing detailed system planning with the day-to-day realities of a busy manufacturing operation.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Control and coordinate daily production requirements across New Parts, Repaired Parts, Assembly and Testing, helping components progress through complex manufacturing and repair routes in line with the build plan.
- Use SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) systems to monitor production orders, schedules, work in progress and inventory, maintaining accurate planning data.
- Monitor actual production against plan, identify constraints involving materials, machines, capacity or processes, and coordinate with relevant teams to establish recovery actions.
- Expedite critical internal and subcontract operations, monitoring external delivery performance and escalating issues that could affect production or on-time delivery.
- Support effective inventory and work centre capacity control across assigned production areas, identifying shortages, excess inventory and potential resource constraints.
- Communicate production priorities across Manufacturing, Engineering, Material Control, Purchasing and Logistics, chairing action-focused meetings where required and supporting improvements in planning processes and system accuracy.
What You Bring
- Previous experience in MRP, production planning, production control, material scheduling or expediting within a manufacturing, engineering or repair environment.
- Hands-on experience using SAP or another manufacturing ERP/MRP system to manage production orders, schedules, materials, work in progress or inventory.
- Experience working with live production schedules and coordinating parts or materials through multiple manufacturing processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and respond to material shortages, production delays, capacity constraints and changing priorities.
- Confident communication skills, with experience working across Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics or other operational teams.
- An HNC in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business or a related discipline is preferred, although equivalent relevant production planning and control experience will also be considered.
