About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
As R&D Engineer - Protection and Testing, you will play an important role in developing and validating protection, automation, and control solutions for high-voltage digital substations. In this role, you will help turn technical requirements into reliable, testable, and project-ready functionalities, covering protection concepts, IEC 61850-based architectures, automation logic, and control interfaces. You will work closely with R&D, embedded software, hardware, project execution, and project management teams to ensure our solutions meet technical, quality, and customer requirements.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Develop, maintain, and validate protection concepts, protection algorithms, automation functions, and control logic for digital substation applications.
- Define functional requirements, test cases, acceptance criteria, and verification plans for protection, automation, and control functionalities.
- Configure, simulate, and test protection-related prototypes, automation functions, and control interfaces in line with system and software requirements.
- Perform functional validation, integration testing, system-level testing, and factory acceptance test preparation for protection and automation applications.
- Work with hardware, embedded software, and system architects to ensure protection applications and software interfaces are clearly specified, implemented, and verified.
- Analyze test results, defects, and field feedback, and support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions together with development and project teams.
- Configure and test IEC 61850 station bus and process bus solutions, including protection IEDs, merging units, GOOSE, sampled values, and related automation interfaces.
- Support project execution teams during engineering, FAT, commissioning preparation, and technical clarification with customers and internal stakeholders.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, automation, embedded systems, or a comparable field.
- Several years of experience with high-voltage substations, protection systems, automation and control systems, or secondary equipment applications.
- Strong knowledge of digital substation engineering, testing, and commissioning, including IEC 61850, station bus, process bus, merging units, GOOSE, and sampled values.
- Good understanding of transmission and distribution systems, including protection concepts, protection logic, automation functions, and control functionalities.
- Hands-on experience with functional testing, system integration testing, test automation, simulation environments, and verification of protection and automation applications.
- Experience with modelling, simulation, or scripting using tools and languages such as MATLAB/Simulink, C, C++, Python, or comparable environments.
- Familiarity with embedded software development principles, including requirements breakdown, software interfaces, real-time constraints, debugging, version control, and software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
