A Snapshot of Your Day

The Senior Protection & Control (P&C) Commissioning Engineer will serve as the technical authority on-site for protection and control commissioning activities supporting high-voltage substation EPC and turnkey projects. You will develop and execute commissioning strategies, oversee testing of protection relays, control systems, SCADA interfaces, metering systems, and secondary equipment, and ensure systems are safely energized and integrated. Working closely with engineering, construction, project management, OEMs, and client teams, you will lead technical problem-solving, manage commissioning risks, and drive alignment on project milestones. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to lead teams under tight deadlines while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and grid reliability.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures for protection and control systems within high-voltage substations, supporting readiness for energization and isolation/permit-to-work processes.
  • Lead and oversee testing and commissioning of protection relays, control systems, metering equipment, SCADA interfaces, communication systems, and substation control panels.
  • Perform and supervise relay testing, end-to-end testing, functional checks, logic verification, point-to-point testing, and control system validation.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide technical direction to commissioning teams while ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, OEMs, engineering teams, construction personnel, and client representatives to align commissioning activities with project timelines, budgets, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable IEC, IEEE, NERC, OSHA, and client-specific standards while maintaining commissioning documentation, including test reports, relay settings verification records, NCRs, RAMS, and as-built documentation.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in protection and control commissioning, with demonstrated experience in high-voltage substations.
  • Experience testing and commissioning microprocessor-based protection relays, including SEL, Siemens, GE, ABB/Hitachi Energy, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, relay logic drawings, and test procedures, with familiarity with digital relays, substation automation systems, and transmission and distribution protection schemes.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance, and safety management on high-voltage sites, along with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
