About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
The role is critical for providing subject matter expertise on the operating fleet of large utility generators, with a specific focus on grid interaction, supporting the maturing SynCon Fleet, and representing Siemens Energy in IEEE sub-committees. To meet these objectives, the role is structured around three core areas: providing direct technical support and troubleshooting for the active fleet, developing and documenting engineering solutions for repairs and maintenance, and contributing to strategic initiatives and industry standards. This approach ensures both immediate operational stability and long-term fleet reliability and performance. Given the focus on advanced technical problem-solving and industry leadership, the ideal candidate will be a recognized expert in electrical engineering with experience in the power generation industry. They must possess deep knowledge of turbogenerators and synchronous condensers, coupled with strong analytical and communication skills to manage complex projects and interface with customers and industry peers.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- 50% Fleet Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Provide electrical engineering support for the operating fleet of large utility generators and synchronous condensers. Lead root cause investigations for forced outages and other operational issues, providing timely and effective resolutions.Disposition findings from field inspections and make expert repair recommendations for generator components. Offer direct support to field service teams and customers during urgent events, including nights and weekends as required.
- 30% Engineering Design & Lifecycle Management: Develop and design robust repair methods and engineering solutions for complex electrical and mechanical issues. Create and release comprehensive product definition documents, including bills of materials, technical drawings, and process requirements. Conduct detailed engineering studies and component evaluations to support fleet maintenance and modernization strategies. Manage the lifecycle of engineering solutions, from initial design and testing to field implementation and documentation.
- 20% Strategic Development & Industry Engagement: Represent Siemens Energy in IEEE Generator sub-committees, contributing to the development of industry standards. Develop and refine strategic maintenance schedules and scopes for the generator fleet to enhance reliability and performance. Mentor and coach junior engineering professionals, sharing subject matter expertise in generator technology and grid interaction. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and the adoption of new technologies within the service engineering team.
