Head of License Management

A Snapshot of Your Day

As Head of License Management, you lead the strategic, commercial, and compliance-focused management of Siemens Energy’s global software portfolio, including enterprise software, SaaS and engineering applications. Your day may include reviewing the licensing position of a strategic software supplier, preparing recommendations for an upcoming renewal, addressing a compliance risk, or aligning cost optimization opportunities with key stakeholders. You translate software demand, usage, contractual rights and supplier developments into clear management decisions, optimized contracts, controlled risks, and measurable cost improvements. Working closely with Procurement, Contract Management, Finance, Legal, Application Management, Service Owners and License Tools and Support department (TS), you provide direction on strategic licensing matters and lead an international team of License Managers.

The License Management team is responsible for the strategic, commercial, compliance and licensing interpretation of Siemens Energy’s global software portfolio. It develops vendor-specific strategies, supports major negotiations and contract decisions, governs compliance and audit readiness and drives sustainable license cost optimization. License Management works closely with Tools and Support (TS) department, which provides operational and technical enablement, including License Administration, support processes, SAM tools, reporting, automation and engineering license services.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Define and implement the global License Management strategy, governance model, priorities, and vendor-specific approaches across Siemens Energy’s software portfolio.
• Strengthen strategic software negotiations by providing validated licensing positions, demand scenarios, cost models, and recommendations for renewals, true-ups, true-downs, and contract transformations.
• Own software compliance, governance and audit readiness, ensuring that licensing risks are identified, communicated, and addressed through appropriate mitigation measures.
• Identify and drive sustainable cost optimization, translating software usage, contractual rights, and future business demand into measurable savings and improved commercial decisions.
• Lead and develop an international License Management team, ensuring clear supplier ownership, consistent delivery standards, effective backup coverage, and strong collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.

What You Bring

• A university degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a comparable discipline.
• Significant leadership experience in a complex international organization and extensive experience in License Management, strategic sourcing, supplier management, or software contract governance.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise software, SaaS and engineering software licensing, including complex commercial and licensing models used by major software suppliers.
• Proven experience in software negotiations, contract renewals, compliance assessments, audits, risk mitigation, and license cost optimization.
• Strong commercial capabilities in budgeting, forecasting, cost modeling, scenario development, and business-case preparation.
• The ability to translate complex licensing and contractual conditions into clear financial, technical, compliance, and business implications.
• Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills, with the ability to provide concise and decision-ready recommendations.
• Experience in leading distributed international teams and collaborating across organizational and cultural boundaries.
• A sound understanding of License Administration, SAM tools, reporting, workflow automation, and engineering license services to ensure effective collaboration with License Tools and Support (TS) department.
