About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Specialist Professional (P4), this role is vital for providing expert technical support for gas turbine service operations, primarily focusing on customer sites in the western United States. To address this need, the position is structured around three core areas: on-site technical support during outages, in-depth component engineering and lifecycle analysis, and comprehensive stakeholder communication. This approach ensures both immediate field issue resolution and long-term component reliability, directly supporting regional service commitments and customer satisfaction. Given the focus on complex field diagnostics and design engineering, the ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in mechanical engineering, specifically with gas turbine compressors. The role requires a recognized subject matter expert with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to manage large projects and effectively interface with customers.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- 50% On-Site Technical Support & Outage Management
- Travel to customer sites across the western US to provide expert engineering support during planned and unplanned gas turbine outages. Lead on-site troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex technical issues related to compressor casings, rotors, and associated components.
- Perform detailed component inspections, assess operational damage, and provide authoritative recommendations for repair, replacement, or upgrades. Oversee the field implementation of technical solutions, design modifications, and engineering changes to ensure compliance with Siemens Energy standards.
- 30% Component Engineering & Lifecycle Management
- Apply advanced mechanical engineering principles to analyze the performance, stress, and durability of compressor components. Develop, design, and validate modifications and retrofits for existing gas turbine components to enhance reliability, performance, and service life.
- Manage the technical lifecycle of assigned components, including conducting Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and collaborating with manufacturing and repair teams. Create and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including technical reports, design specifications, and service bulletins.
- 20% Stakeholder Communication & Project Coordination
- Serve as the primary technical liaison for customers, providing clear, concise, and timely communication regarding component issues, project status, and resolution plans. Manage large-scale engineering projects with limited oversight, coordinating with internal departments such as sales, project management, and global engineering teams.
- Prepare and present complex technical findings and project updates to internal management and external customers. Coach and mentor junior engineers, reviewing their work and delegating tasks on complex projects to develop team capabilities.
