A Snapshot of Your Day
Shape the Future of Energy
Are you seeking more than just a typical engineering job? At Siemens Energy, you’ll travel to power plants across North America, working with some of the largest and most advanced turbines and generators in the world.
Our industry-leading Field Service Engineer in Training Program offers a unique blend of classroom instruction, hands-on technical training, and real-world field experience. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers to support critical energy infrastructure, gaining the skills to become a recognized field engineering expert.
This is your opportunity to launch a dynamic career where every project is unique, each day presents new challenges, and your contributions directly support reliable energy generation. Join our world-class Field Service organization and be part of maintaining and upgrading some of the most powerful electrical generation machinery, including gas and steam turbines and generators.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- During your first 12 months, you will complete classroom and instructor led training in Orlando, FL and Houston, TX (Deer Park) and participate in on-the-job training with expert engineers at multiple customer sites across the US. This will include working directly with our leading staff of field service engineers to develop skills in equipment operation, maintenance, job site safety, project management, leadership, and Siemens Energy’s business systems.
- Once you complete training as a Field Service Engineer, you’ll supervise technicians and mechanics during power plant maintenance shutdowns (both planned and unplanned) and be responsible for disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling turbines and generators.
- You will coordinate the upgrading of mechanical and electrical systems on turbine generators to increase power output and efficiency, while also collaborating with our worldwide engineering staff to perform niche mechanical and electrical testing.
- As the primary customer contact during outages, you will ensure that repairs are made in a timely and accurate manner, while traveling to power generation facilities throughout North America to support maintenance, inspections, repairs, upgrades, and commissioning activities on gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment.
- Additionally, you will assist with equipment disassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and reassembly, and collaborate closely with customers, field technicians, engineers, and service teams to develop expertise in power generation systems and field engineering practices, as well as learn project management, technical leadership, safety, and customer engagement skills.
- We're seeking individuals who enjoy solving complex technical challenges and want a career that combines engineering, travel, teamwork, and hands-on work.
What You Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field is required by your start date (staggering start dates in January and February 2027). Candidates graduating in the following year are encouraged to apply for other open opportunities related to the summer hiring program.
- You enjoy using both your mind and hands to tackle sophisticated mechanical problems while working closely with a team and our customers to provide outstanding service. As a self-starting leader, you utilize all available resources and guide others to build innovative solutions to challenging mechanical issues.
- You are open to travel, willing to spend extended periods away from home, as our Field Service Engineers typically travel 200-250 days per year for durations ranging from 2 to 15 weeks at a time. While deployed, you will work extended hours of up to 12-14 hours per day, including weekends and holidays, with a typical work week totaling 60-84 hours.
- You can ascend and descend ladders to examine equipment, positioning yourself in confined spaces, moving boxes weighing up to 40 pounds, working in outdoor weather conditions, walking long distances, and sharing cramped office trailers with other employees.
- This program offers a flexible schedule that enhances your professional impact, earning potential, and work-life balance. We are currently recruiting for our next class, which will commence in January and February 2027. Our recruitment timeline includes an in-person interviewing event in Orlando and/or Houston during phases starting in Sept.
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
- This position requires driving as an essential job function. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record at the time of application. Employees must maintain these requirements throughout their employment and may be subject to periodic driving record reviews in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
- Priority Locations where you will be hired after training: Chicago, Philadelphia, Las Vegas Other Locations: Dallas, Boston, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Jensen Beach, Charlotte, Kansas, Milwaukee, Denver, Sacramento, Orlando, Houston, Pittsburg
