About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
You will be part of a Materials Engineering team responsible for providing critical technical support across the full product line of Siemens Energy’s aeroderivative gas turbine products—from design and manufacturing to repair and service. In this role, your focus will be on the interaction between material properties, forging quality, downstream machining, and additional processes such as EB welding, shot peening and coating. processes, ensuring that microstructure, and surface integrity meet stringent life and performance requirements. You will work cross-functionally with Design, Manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver robust material and process solutions, with a particular emphasis on machining-induced material response and validation of finished hardware. This role offers a dynamic, fast-paced, and technically challenging environment, with opportunities to engage directly with global suppliers and manufacturing partners through occasional on-site visits.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Provide technical input into the selection of materials, heat treatments, coatings, and suppliers to meet business needs, with a focus on life-critical rotating components.
- Approve methods of manufacture and related documentation—including forging, heat treatment, machining, EB welding, shot peening and coating processes — to ensure components meet design and metallurgical requirements.
- Review and approve component drawings, drawing changes, repair methods, and non-conformance reports from a materials and process perspective.
- Assist with root cause investigations, particularly where material behavior, heat treatment response, or machining/surface integrity is a factor.
- Support development of material, heat treatment, and coating specifications, as well as process capability requirements.
- Provide technical assessment of supplier capability, including forging, heat treatment, machining, EB welding, shot peening and coating providers.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- ~10 years of experience in materials engineering supporting manufacture of critical rotating components, preferably in aerospace or gas turbine applications.
- Strong understanding of the process–structure–property relationship in high-temperature alloys used for critical components (e.g., Ni-based superalloys, high-strength steels, titanium alloys).
- Strong experience supporting manufacture of critical rotating component, including:
- Metallurgical aspects of forging and finished part machining
- Effects of machining on surface integrity, residual stress, and fatigue performance
- Process qualification and validation frameworks (PPQ, MVA, APQP, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with manufacturing quality systems, non-conformance handling, and process qualification frameworks.
- Experience working with forging and machining suppliers to resolve complex material/process issues.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% internationally.
