A Snapshot of Your Day

Lead systems engineer at Siemens Energy

As a part of our team, you will be you responsible for the engineering activities during the bid phase and project execution for specific electrical upgrade/modernization projects (High voltage substations) as well as the ebop part of renewables. The activities associated with the project will vary and will be agreed with the Bid Manager and Project Manager on an ongoing basis. You will co-ordinate the technical design and engineering with the contracted engineering company, client, and end client through to the successful bid submission and project execution. To be based in Wadeville with occasional travel to sites in South Africa and Southeastern Africa.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • You will be responsible for the execution of various stages of the electrical design aspects of the bid
  • Complete electrical/mechanical/civil design review to identify design gaps and deviations or contradictions in the specifications.
  • Validate cable sizing and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Validate steel support structures and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Validate layout, i.e., new building and foundation of transformers and switchgear positions and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Validate fire protection for transformers and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Validate control and protection requirements and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Review and validate the electrical installation methodology to ensure the design is constructible and that there is adequate space for installation and maintenance of all equipment and cabling.
  • Compile and issue electrical technical submittals.
  • Manage submittals through the approvals process.

What You Bring

  • 3rd level Qualification in Electrical Engineering with associated ECSA and SAIEE registration.
  • Experience with both HV and MV systems primarily in distribution and transmission environment
  • Significant Project engineering experience of 4 years+ with an Electrical Contractor
  • Previous record of delivering medium to large Electrical projects (Transmission & Distribution)
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Capability of walking down electrical systems to ensure compliance with specification
  • Experience developing technical submittals, completing technical reviews and assessments.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures – knowledge of the team, their strengths, and weaknesses
  • The ability to multi-task and manage many priorities
  • Excellent communicator/strong interpersonal skills/communicates with impact
  • Excellent record keeper and administration skills
  • Leads and influences others.
  • Innovates and leads in electrical/technical activity and challenges.
  • Plans and effectively manages projects.
  • Solves problems analytically and acts decisively
