About the Role
Snapshot of Your Day
As our Head of Technical Bid Management, you will join the Substations & FACTS Business in Newcastle, United Kingdom —leading a high‑performing team that plays a pivotal role in the energy transition. You will own the full acquisition cycle for both substation & FACTS projects locally, shaping winning strategies and value‑driven tenders through a balance of technical leadership, commercial insight, and customer focus.
In this role, you guide the tendering organization through the entire front‑end process working with the Sales Teams — from market engagement to contract signature—while empowering your team to deliver differentiated, customer‑centric solutions. You will drive alignment across sales, tendering, commercial sales, engineering, procurement, and project execution, ensuring a unified go‑to‑market approach. Your leadership will strengthen discipline, efficiency, and collaboration across the organization, building a resilient tendering function that consistently delivers high‑quality, competitive proposals and secures successful outcomes for the business.

Strategic Leadership & Market Focus
- Collaborate with Sales to define and execute strategies aligned with Grid Technologies Substations & FACTS vision.
- Utilize market insights to prioritize opportunities and develop actionable business plans and customer value propositions.
Bid Execution
- Lead the acquisition cycle with strong opportunity management, accurate forecasting, and commercial governance.
- Build strategic customer partnerships by showcasing the reliability and efficiency of our solutions.
- Enhance solution selling competencies within Sales, emphasizing lifecycle value and digital benefits.
- Demonstrate commercial leadership in contract models, risk allocation, and negotiations, ensuring adherence to policies and ethical standards.
Team Leadership & Development
- Inspire and develop a diverse international team, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Enhance team capabilities in competitive tendering and customer-centric value creation.
- Foster talent development and knowledge sharing across tender management communities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with sales, execution teams, and global partners for seamless project delivery.
- Provide strategic input for global planning and oversee the tender lifecycle for quality and compliance.
- Develop tendering strategies aligned with market demands and ensure rigorous risk management practices.
- Represent the department in executive forums and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders while monitoring market trends.
- Cultivate a learning-focused environment to support ongoing improvement in sales and tendering activities.
What You Bring
- Extensive market knowledge of AC Substations & FACTS Projects / grid connections.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Strong organizational skills, a structured working style, and a proactive “can‑do" attitude.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with Salesforce CRM.
- Ability to thrive in an international, multicultural environment across multiple business units, collaboration partners, and customer interfaces.
- Proven experience managing tenders or EPC turnkey projects.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with executive stakeholders and build strong customer relationships.
- Experience leading cross‑functional, cross‑country teams, with deep understanding of technical, commercial, and contractual project management.
- Strong leadership qualities with a track record of developing high‑performing teams and driving continuous improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK & internationally.
