About the Role
A Snapshot of your day
- Analyze customer technical specifications, Request for Proposals (RFPs), and single-line diagrams (SLDs) for AIS and GIS Substation projects to develop fully compliant, optimized, and competitive turnkey or equipment-only solutions.
- Prepare and manage the creation of detailed technical and commercial tenders, bids, and proposals for high-voltage substations up to utility-scale voltages.
- Collaborate with internal engineering (civil, structural, electrical), procurement, and project management teams to confirm design feasibility, footprint optimization, and accurate pricing.
- Define and document technical configurations, including switchgear (GIS/AIS), transformers, instrument transformers, surge arresters, and protection & control systems, aligning them with pricing considerations and contract requirements.
- Optimize layout designs (especially footprint reduction for GIS or clearances for AIS) in coordination with the design team to present the most cost-effective solution to the client.
- Prepare and conduct technical sales briefings, proposal presentations, and layout reviews for utility clients, EPCs, and industrial customer representatives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customer engineers and procurement stakeholders to understand their evolving grid requirements.
- Manage inbound customer inquiries, including technical Q&As, Requests for Information (RFIs), and pre-bid clarification meetings.
- Prepare detailed cost calculations, including Bill of Quantities (BOQ), commercial risk assessments, and quantification; coordinate with sub-vendors (e.g., civil contractors, control system integrators).
- Support the sales and business development teams with market intelligence, technical workshops, and customer care initiatives.
- Collaborate with business promoters, consortium partners, factories, and execution teams to optimize the technical and commercial offer, ensuring a winning strategy aligned with customer drivers.
- Manage tendering projects and complex turnkey substation processes independently, navigating challenging regulatory, environmental, or grid-code requirements with limited supervision.
- Track market trends regarding eco-efficient alternative gases for GIS, and standard utility practices to position proposals strategically.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Proven experience (typically 5–8 years) in technical sales, tendering, application engineering, or primary/secondary design within the HV substation industry.
- Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge of AIS and GIS switchgear, substation layouts, and auxiliary systems. Familiarity with civil/structural constraints and protection & control (P&C) concepts is highly desirable.
- Mastery of Bid & Proposal Management, BOQ estimation, risk matrix evaluation, and technical writing.
- Strong communication skills for relationship building, technical negotiations, and resolving pre-bid clarifications.
- Ability to analyze competitor positioning, optimize cost structures for EPC bids, and apply strategic thinking to maximize win rates.
- Be a trusted advisor to both your Internal and External Stakeholders
- Develop your technical and soft-skills working with cross-functional teams
- Numerous further training opportunities (technical, soft skills etc.) are available to you on the Siemens Energy Learning platform
