About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
We are looking for a people-focused technical sales leader to serve as Team Lead for Substation Systems Sales, responsible for driving growth across a portfolio of substation systems and solutions. This role leads day-to-day execution across the systems sales team—supporting opportunity qualification, solution positioning, and customer engagement—while partnering closely with bid management, engineering, and product partners to deliver competitive, compliant offers. To meet these objectives, the role is structured around three core areas: Substation Systems Sales Leadership, Customer Relationship & Market Development, and Offer Development & Internal Coordination. The role holder will standardize best practices, improve funnel quality, and ensure the team consistently applies strong technical and commercial fundamentals across opportunities. Success requires strong coaching skills, pipeline management discipline, and the ability to translate customer requirements into differentiated systems solutions while balancing risk, schedule, and margin.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- 40% Substation Systems Sales Team Leadership
- Lead and coach the Substation Systems Sales team, setting priorities, allocating resources, and developing capabilities to improve win rate and execution quality.
- Drive opportunity qualification and pipeline robustness, ensuring timely updates, realistic forecasting, and clear capture strategies for priority pursuits.
- Standardize and continuously improve sales processes, templates, and best practices across systems offers, including lessons learned and knowledge sharing.
- Collaboration with the technical expert’s sales head & Substation EPC head to set overall strategies.
- Drive innovation with new technologies & solutions ie Clean air, LPIT, digital solutions etc.
- Provide pipeline transparency to internal partners setting strategic capacity targets
- 40% Customer Relationship & Market Development
- Build and maintain relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, understanding technical drivers, buying processes, and long-term planning horizons.
- Identify and develop growth opportunities for substation systems, including bundling of products, services, and digital solutions where applicable.
- Represent the systems sales in customer meetings, workshops, and industry events, ensuring consistent messaging and high-quality follow-up.
- Foster and develop close working relationships with front sales account managers to enable further pipeline growth
- 20% Offer Development & Internal Coordination
- Partner with bid management, engineering, procurement, and commercial teams to develop compliant, competitive systems offers aligned with customer requirements and internal guidelines.
- Review and challenge technical/commercial assumptions (scope, interfaces, schedule, risks) to improve offer quality, margin, and deliverability.
- Support negotiation strategy and internal approvals for systems opportunities, ensuring clear documentation and stakeholder alignment.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Significant experience in technical sales (typically 7+ years), specifically within the energy, utility, or power transmission and distribution sector.
- Proven experience in a leadership or team management role, with a track record of achieving sales targets.
- Strong knowledge of substation design and products with Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) knowledge being highly preferred.
Travel, as required, (~30%) both domestically and internationally.
