Main purpose of position:
We are seeking an experienced HSSE Advisor to join our global team in Thakadu, Free State, as we work toward our vision: Improving our Future. In this role, you will support the facilitation, development, maintenance, and continual improvement of the project’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) practices. You will help ensure that all HSSE activities are effectively managed in line with the Scatec Operating System (HSSE Management System), as well as applicable legal and other regulatory requirements.
Main responsibilities:
- Support the management to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements
- Advise management and facilitate the obtaining of relevant permits
- Support management to monitor and enforce the HSSE Program
- Support on the implementation of project HSSE objectives and ensure set targets achieved as per requirement
- Coordinate with and report HSSE activities to the HSSE Manager and Construction Manager
- Assist in the project HSSE supervision and in the development, implementation, and monitoring of job hazard analysis for subcontractors.
- Assist on coordination of contractor HSSE personnel and processes (i.e., emergency procedures, LOTO, etc.)
- Investigate all accidents including near misses and make recommendations to eliminate future occurrences
- Assist on the establishment of communications systems encouraging worker participation in identifying and correcting HSSE hazards
- Ensure that the risk assessments are in place for all tasks and updated should the work scope changes
Qualifications and competencies:
- SAMTRAC or equivalent and/or valid qualification on environment, occupational health, and safety
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction HSSE management
- Fluent both in written and spoken English
- In depth understanding of a HSSE management system
- Basic knowledge of international standards related to HSSE (i.e., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.)
- Knowledge of IFC’s HSSE guidelines, IFC Performance Standards, and Equator Principles
