Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for an HSSE Manager in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our HSSE manager you will need to assure that health, safety, security, and the environment is managed according to Scatec Operating, legal and other requirements and are complied with throughout the project construction phase.

Main responsibilities

  • Implement Scatec’s approach of working together to achieve zero harm
  • Establishing and implementing an HSSE management system for the project
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal and other requirements
  • Support project team to achieve Scatec HSSE objectives/KPIs
  • Assure contractors’ compliance to HSSE requirements by implementing Scatec’s HSSE Program at project
  • Review contractors’ tender documentation and participate in kick-off meetings
  • Review and approve contractors’ management system
  • Ensure legal permits are in place and remain valid
  • Incentivize worker uptake of safe working practice
  • Plan and execute training and awareness programs
  • Plan and execute HSSE internal audits and participate on external audits
  • Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated and mitigation measures implemented accordingly. Also, to encourage an open attitude towards reporting of incidents and creating an environment for discussions of incidents

Qualifications and competencies

  • Education: University Degree or equivalent and/or valid qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience in HSSE management in construction projects
  • In depth understanding of an HSSE management system during construction
  • Team player, building a positive HSSE culture
  • Knowledge of international standards related to HSSE (ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
  • Knowledge of IFC’s HSSE guidelines, IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, etc.
  • Knowledge of HSE laws and regulations
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written (and other languages if needed or ideal)
