Main purpose of the position

Currently we are looking for a Project Cost Controller in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. This is a highly visible, challenging, hands-on, dynamic and wide-ranging role covering activities. As our Project Cost controller solar projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, you will execute activities such as business partnering with non-finance teams to add value to the construction segment, driving strategy and profitability across the different projects.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsibility for all cost-controlling related activities on the projects in SSA
  • Create a fully developed detailed project budget together with the Project Manager (PM) and procurement
  • Collaborate with Project Manager, procurement, and engineering to develop and maintain the project cost forecast on an ongoing basis.
  • Work closely with the PM to generate all required project status reports for the project team and internal management.
  • Maintain project cash flows monitoring both the forecasted cash flows and actual cash flows of the project.
  • Execute delta analysis of actual projects costs vs budget on an ongoing basis bringing to the Project Managers attention any deviations and or variations to the budget.
  • Manage the risks and opportunities portfolio for the project together with the Project Manager (PM) and maintain the risk register.
  • Evaluate the financial impact on the project margin of changes and variations in Scope of Work.
  • Conduct Monthly Project close-out performing financial analysis and reporting on all key figures of the projects in scope (revenue, cost of sale and gross margin).
  • Verify the accuracy of project actual internal costs – salaries, travel expenses and booking of time in line with the budget.
  • Adhere to the contractual milestone payment plan and check documents/activities required for payment.
  • Collaborate with the business controlling team to improve the project cost controlling process, leading certain sub-processes in line with experience.

Qualifications and competencies

  • University degree in Finance, Business or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in Project Control within a Finance environment, preferably from an international environment
  • 3+ years Renewable Energy or Large Infrastructure Projects experience
  • Ability to consolidate data from several sources for presentation, being able to efficiently process and evaluate large data volumes and propose actions based on findings
  • Master Microsoft suite and Business intelligence tools
  • Overall curiosity and ability to contribute to finance areas such as Tax, Treasury, Accounting, Financial reporting and systems, Asset Management and other internal stakeholders
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and French/ Arabic
  • Maintain close communication and collaboration with local accounting services provider.
