We’re on the lookout for a Winderman PM1 to take overall responsibility for the finishing department, ensuring the winder operates efficiently, only paper meeting the required quality specifications is passed through, and reels are correctly dressed and prepared before entering the Warehouse.
As a Winderman PM1, you will be responsible for:
- Lead and coordinate the Winder team to ensure effective teamwork, safe operations and maximum production output.
- Operate the winder in accordance with ISO work instructions, operating procedures and safety requirements to achieve production targets.
- Ensure final reel quality meets Sappi and customer standards, including winding quality, paper properties, finishing and visual specifications.
- Monitor, identify and report non-conformances relating to jumbo reels and paper webs, and coordinate corrective action with the Process Controller and Dry End Controller.
- Conduct plant inspections and process checks to ensure equipment is operating safely and effectively, and complete required log sheets and inspections.
- Operate the crane safely when handling and loading reels, ensuring compliance with relevant work instructions and safety procedures.
- Perform plant isolations and gas testing in accordance with approved safety and isolation procedures, and support maintenance activities during shutdowns and paper breaks.
- Maintain SHEQ and production standards by completing safety checks and BBS observations, identifying and addressing hazards, maintaining good housekeeping, and accurately capturing production and reel information.
What are we looking for?
- Matric (Grade 12) with Math’s and Physical Science or an N3 in Pulp and Paper.
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant operational experience in a paper manufacturing or paper machine production environment.
