We are seeking a self-starting Technical Training Officer: Electrical and Instrumentation to deliver high-quality artisan training and skills development for Electrical and Instrumentation apprentices, ensuring compliance with South African QCTO requirements, occupational curricula, and workplace training standards. The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating theoretical, practical, and workplace-based learning interventions that develop competent artisans capable of operating safely and effectively within a plant environment.

This position reports to the Skills Centre Manager

As a Technical Training Officer: Electrical and Instrumentation will be responsible for:

  • Deliver theoretical and practical training in Electrical and Instrumentation disciplines aligned to QCTO occupational curricula and apprenticeship requirements.
  • Prepare apprentices for formative, summative, and trade test assessments through structured coaching and workplace exposure.
  • Conduct learner assessments, provide developmental feedback, and maintain assessment integrity and compliance documentation.
  • Develop and update technical training material, simulations, assessments, and practical exercises aligned to current engineering and plant technologies.
  • Promote strong troubleshooting, fault-finding, preventive maintenance, and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Ensure all training activities comply with Occupational Health & Safety standards, safe work procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, portfolios of evidence, logbooks, attendance registers, and assessment documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Skills Development, SETAs, and external training providers to support artisan development and succession planning initiatives.

What are we looking for?

  • Recognised Trade Test as an Electrician, Instrument Mechanician, or dual trade qualification.
  • Qualified Master Artisan and Wireman’s License preferred.
  • ETDP qualification, Moderator and Assessor Certification is advantageous.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ relevant industrial plant experience in Electrical and/or Instrumentation maintenance.
  • Extensive experience in fault finding, plant maintenance, shutdowns, and troubleshooting within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and developing apprentices or technical learners.
  • Experience in artisan training and trade test preparation.
  • Exposure to QCTO apprenticeship systems and compliance requirements is essential.
