We’re on the lookout for a Shift Superintendent Chemical will effectively manage resources (people, machines, etc.) with the objective of producing quality and quantity products according to customer requirements and in line with mill standards and objectives.
As an Shift Superintendent Chemical you will be responsible for:
Operational Excellence
- Lead and manage a shift-based team to ensure efficient, stable, and safe plant operations.
- Plan and coordinate plant operations to maximise the utilisation of raw materials, energy, and people.
- Manage production activities including start-ups, shutdowns, checks, and monitoring of operational trends.
Engaged and Developed Workforce
- Coach and mentor team members while assessing staff performance against position profiles.
- Ensure on-the-job and off-the-job training to support employee development and performance.
- Monitor, evaluate, and adjust employee roles and responsibilities to maintain high performance standards.
Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements and monitor team adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Investigate SHEQ incidents, identify root causes of non-conformances, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards in line with 5S and ensure BBS observations are conducted.
Control of Budget
- Monitor and ensure adherence to annual fixed cost, renewals, overtime, and manpower budgets.
Customer Relations
- Communicate effectively with internal and external suppliers and customers.
- Respond to customer feedback and implement corrective actions to maintain service and quality standards.
What are we looking for?
- National Diploma in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering.
- Computer literate with working knowledge of the MS Office package (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Knowledge of SAP will be an added advantage.
- 1–2 years’ experience acting as a Shift Superintendent within a Chemical Plant environment.
- 5–8 years’ experience in Gas Plant, Lime Kiln, and Causticizing operations.
