We Are Hiring: Planning Superintendent

The Planning Superintendent leads the maintenance planning function within the assigned area at Ngodwana Mill and provide the systems and processes required for effective maintenance planning, shutdown planning, failure analysis and maintenance performance reporting. The role works closely with the Reliability Manager, Engineers and Maintenance teams and has a key influence on shutdown execution, work management and equipment reliability across the mill.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring maintenance planning activities comply with legal requirements, mill procedures and applicable standards.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through the compliance to legal regulations and mill procedures (e.g., OHS Act, ISO systems, etc.)

Effective Shutdown Planning

  • Lead shutdown planning activities within the assigned area and ensure alignment with the overall Mill Shutdown Plan and Shutdown Business Process.
  • Coordinate with the other planning areas and relevant stakeholders to ensure integrated shutdown planning and execution
  • Coach and support engineering and maintenance personnel in shutdown planning requirements.
  • Monitor shutdown planning readiness and escalate risks that may affect execution.

Effective Work in Progress Management

  • Establish and maintain effective weekly and daily maintenance planning and scheduling processes within the assigned area.
  • Monitor work-in-progress and forward workload to support effective resource utilisation and schedule compliance.
  • Identify planning backlogs and constraints and drive appropriate corrective actions.

Preventative Maintenance Schedules

  • Ensure maintenance plans and preventative maintenance schedules are effectively maintained within SAP.
  • Monitor the quality and effectiveness of preventative maintenance schedules through regular audits and drive continuous improvement.

Failure Analysis

  • Establish and maintain effective systems and processes for failure analysis and corrective-action tracking.
  • Support Engineering and Maintenance teams in ensuring failure-analysis actions are captured, monitored and closed out.

Maintenance Task Lists and Master Data

  • Ensure development and continuous improvement of SAP task lists for repetitive maintenance work.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of appropriate Quality Control Procedures (QCP)
  • Ensure SAP master data and Bills of Materials (BOM’s)support effective maintenance planning and spares retrieval.

Performance Measurement & Reporting

  • Monitor and report maintenance planning and work-management performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Provide Engineering and Maintenance leadership with regular performance reports and identify areas requiring corrective action.
  • Use performance trends to drive continuous improvement within the planning function

Coaching and Capability Development

  • Identify planning and maintenance-system capability gaps and coordinate appropriate training.
  • Coach and support engineering and maintenance personnel in maintenance planning, work-management and SAP processes.
  • Promote consistent application of planning standards and business processes across the mill.

People

  • Lead, coach and develop the assigned Planning team.
  • Establish clear accountability and performance expectations.
  • Coach and support engineering and maintenance personnel, including Engineers, Foremen and Technicians, in maintenance and shutdown planning processes.

Maintenance Systems and Process Compliance

  • Ensure effective control and management of the rotable repair process.
  • Ensure relevant employees understand and comply with the rotable repair process.
  • Monitor compliance with maintenance planning and business processes through regular audits and drive corrective actions where required

Essential Qualifications

  • Relevant Engineering Diploma – NQF Level 6 & a recognised Trade Certificate

Minimum Experience & Requirements

  • 5–8 years relevant experience in a maintenance/engineering environment, including at least 3 years maintenance planning experience.
  • SAP maintenance planning experience (PM, PS and MM would be advantageous)
