We’re on the lookout for an experienced Occupational Health Practitioner to ensure the maintenance of a sustainable, healthy workforce. This role is responsible for establishing support functions that enhance employee health, safety, and productivity, while implementing systems that ensure compliance with all relevant legislation in an agricultural/rural environment.
As a Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for:
Occupational Health
- Monitor employee health, implement remedial actions, and correct deviations.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements relating to occupational health and safety.
- Identify and control occupational and environmental hazards through continuous assessment and preventative measures.
- Manage adverse health effects arising from workplace conditions, including work-related injuries, illness, rehabilitation, reintegration, and compensation.
- Ensure appropriate staff deployment aligned with inherent job requirements and potential exposure risks.
- Provide employee training and education relevant to workplace health and safety risks.
Primary Health Care
- Deliver a Primary Health Care programme to employees, including:
- Assessing, diagnosing, and treating non-work-related illnesses and injuries.
- Family planning, vaccination, and immunisation programmes.
- Monitoring chronic conditions and facilitating access to medication.
- Health education initiatives.
- Providing non-occupational emergency medical support.
Clinic Management
- Provide professional health and wellbeing advice to line management.
- Assist in the development and implementation of health policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate, timely reporting of occupational health issues.
- Maintain quality data collection, benchmarking, analysis, and reporting.
- Manage clinic budgets responsibly.
- Drive continuous improvement through formalised, data-driven monitoring and evaluation processes.
What are we looking for?
- National Diploma/Degree in Nursing
- Diploma in Occupational Health
- Registered Audiometrist
- Certificate in Spirometry
- Dispensing Certificate
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and the South African Society for Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN)
- Code EB driver’s licence (manual)
- At least 3 years’ experience in the Occupational Health field
- HCT (Health Care Initiated Testing) training
- HIV Management course
