We’re on the lookout for a Softwood Checker to assist the Softwood Operator with the control of operations at Softwood plant from Softwood Entry Deck to Softwood Chip Pile.

As a Softwood Checker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Pre-Operational Checks, conduct physical inspections of plant machinery before start-up.
  • Operational Inspections, monitor machinery during operation for signs of abnormal vibration, temperature, noise, smoke, leaks, deformation, and other irregularities.
  • Troubleshooting, investigate and troubleshoot unplanned plant stoppages and alarms following Best Operating Practices.
  • Conveyor System Maintenance, inspect chain and belt conveyors for issues such as misalignment, cracks, worn parts, and missing or bent components.
  • Machine Guarding, verify that all machine guarding is in place, adequate, and in good condition before starting operations.
  • Work Permits & Isolation, isolate plant and issue work permits as required by Mill lock-out procedures.
  • Operational Relief, relieve SW Operators when necessary and licensed.
  • Conveyor & Chip Handling, clear log and bark blockages, clean bark build-up, and manage chip samples and quality.
  • Housekeeping, maintain cleanliness in the work area, including clearing slithers from chutes and cleaning cameras.
  • Communication & Compliance, report inspection findings, communicate with maintenance personnel, and ensure adherence to SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) requirements.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Maths and Physical Science
  • N3 Pulp and Paper would be advantageous
  • 06 months experience in the Woodyard
