We’re on the lookout for an experienced Junior Civil Technician to coordinate building maintenance and new projects as per the Mill requirements by allocating priority tasks to the contractors in co-operation with Production and Engineering Departments.


As the Junior Civil Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Consult with production managers / engineers concerning major work in progress

  • Verify material and contract resources availability for future work on a weekly basis

  • Authorise labour, material and transport for work to be undertaken outside the factory premises

  • Inspect Mill buildings, roads, effluent channels as per maintenance schedules / daily rounds

  • Plan and effect remedial action identified during inspections in consultation with production managers / engineers concerned

  • Assist Planner: Assistant to order critical materials

  • Obtain quotations for projects / maintenance work via procurement

  • Develop maintenance schedule for all civil assets

  • Allocate daily work to contractors based on instructions from Technician: Project/ consultation with the relevant departments

  • Instruct contractors on safety / work procedures

  • Supervise contractors through daily inspections

  • Report suspected malpractices to Technician: Project

  • Maintain ethical work practices by taking the necessary action constantly and fairly

  • Draw up specifications for project and maintenance work which will form part of tender documents

  • Manage the civil building aspect of new project work onsite

  • Ensure compliance to construction regulations where applicable

  • Maintain standards of workmanship and quality of work of contractors and own staff on an ongoing basis by conducting regular inspections of work in progress and report noncompliance to Technician: Project

  • Record and allocate labour and materials against the relevant works order for cost allocation and expenditure control in consultation with the Technician: Project

  • Provide assitance to the Project manager to raise PR's, perfrom capitalizations, compile cost spreadsheets

What are we looking for?

  • NQF level 6 qualification in Civil Engineering

  • 2 years’ relevant experience in construction management

  • Factory exposure would be advantageous

  • SAP knowledge advantageous

  • Computer literacy
