About the role

As the Commercial Director at Plentify, you own the revenue target for Plentify’s South African business, and are a key member of Plentify’s leadership team in SA. You will lead the company’s commercial strategy, build and lead a team responsible for all B2B sales, account management, retention and upsells/cross-sells. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in commercial leadership, strong business acumen, and a deep understanding of the energy sector.

Required skills

  • Commercial strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive commercial strategies to drive revenue growth and market penetration.
  • Sales leadership: Build, lead and mentor the B2B sales team to achieve sales targets and drive customer acquisition.
  • Business development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and alliances to expand Plentify’s market reach.
  • Customer success: Build and deepen strong relationships with key customers, become their trusted advisor, and grow our business with that customer over time.
  • Go-to-market: Collaborate with the product team and other functions within Plentify to take new products to market, through developing and executing on the go-to-market strategy.
  • Marketing: Work closely with the product marketing team to develop sales and customer success collateral and lead generation initiatives.
  • Revenue forecasting: Develop accurate revenue forecasts and track performance against targets, providing regular updates to the executive team.
  • Industry thought leadership: Represent Plentify at industry events and conferences, positioning the company as a thought leader in smart energy, load management, demand response.

We think you’ll do well in this role if you:

  • Have successfully led teams of 10+ members in a B2B environment, consistently surpassing sales targets of >R100m per year.
  • Have demonstrated experience in unlocking new channels and developing new commercial strategies that have resulted in at least a 30% year-on-year revenue growth.
  • Bring more than 10 years of experience in the energy sector, with knowledge in smart energy solutions, solar, load management, or demand response.
  • Have a track record of securing and growing major accounts (annual contracts exceeding R10m pa) and maintaining high retention rates (95%+).
  • Have built deep relationships with the C-Suite at e.g. solar companies, distributors, property developers, and other industry leaders.
  • Are skilled in public speaking and have represented companies as a keynote speaker at several industry-related conferences or events.
  • Are adept at using data to drive decision-making.

Required experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial leadership roles, specifically within the energy sector.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive sales performance and exceed targets (R100m+ per year).
