OnePower Lesotho (1PWR) is a renewable energy company headquartered in Maseru, Lesotho seeking enthusiastic individuals to join a growing team.

About 1PWR

1PWR’s core business is the development, financing, part ownership, engineering, procurement, construction, and operation and maintenance of electricity-selling renewable assets, including generation from solar PV, backup fuel generators, battery storage, medium voltage reticulation and low voltage distribution and metering. 1PWR has an active portfolio of minigrid solar energy projects in construction and both on-grid (20MW solar PV) and off-grid pipeline within Lesotho. 1PWR customers are diverse, including households, SMEs, institutions and corporates, with revenue from both real-time high volume PAYG transactions and postpaid billing.

Energy Access Fellowships

We are looking for creative, confident, technically competent individuals who love to take on new challenges and enjoy the idea of working in a field that is still very much in its infancy. Fellows will be based in Maseru, Lesotho and will be expected to commit to six months of tenure. These positions are available immediately, and preference will be given to candidates who are able to start on or before March 1, 2025.

As an Energy Access Fellow you will be contributing to the successful implementation of a portfolio of rural mini grids. Fellowship topics can have a variety of focus areas, matched to the expertise and interests of the Fellow, including:

  1. Asset Management: Assist direct timely movement of equipment and supplies between suppliers, HQ, and work sites and assist with planning and implementing storage of equipment and supplies.
  2. Operations & Maintenance: Assist in completing preventive and corrective maintenance for off-grid and mini-grids and assist with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining mini-grids.
  3. Customer care: Serve as the initial point of contact for customer inquiries and issues, responding professionally, identify and resolve customer concerns, ensuring their satisfaction.

Regardless of topic focus all Fellows will be invited to participate in many aspects of OnePower’s work in Lesotho, including:

  • Collaborating with an enthusiastic team of Basotho engineers, technicians, and entrepreneurs
  • Improving understanding of rural energy needs and contributing to deployment of energy systems across rural Lesotho
  • Identifying opportunities for expansion, brainstorming new projects, developing proposals.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Information Technology/Systems, Supply Chain, Business Management or a technically-related field to the area of study for the fellowship
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written)
  • Creativity and willingness to learn and take on challenges
  • Ability to diplomatically manage work and interactions with individuals at many levels of experience and influence within the governmental, private, and non-profit sectors
