Job Description:
Cambridge Education, a subsidiary of Mott MacDonald Limited, is seeking to recruit a Deputy Team Leader to support management of a new FCDO funded programme, Transforming Education in Ethiopia (TREE). TREE is a four-year programme (2024 – 2028) designed to support the Government of Ethiopia at both federal and regional levels to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes, and increase access to good quality education, particularly for girls and marginalised children. It will build on significant progress made by the Government of Ethiopia at all levels to expand educational opportunities for children.
TREE will focus on three key outcomes:
- Outcome 1 – improved quality of teaching and learning in targeted schools, with focus on developing pedagogical skills of teachers and competency of school leaders;
- Outcome 2 – improved teaching and learning in English Language as a subject and improved use of English across the school curriculum;
- Outcome 3 – increased number of the most marginalised children, particularly girls, accessing education, staying in school without dropping out and learning.
Job Profile:
The Deputy Team Leader will serve as the Technical Assistance Lead and function as a core member of the TREE senior management team. S/he will work in close collaboration with the Team Leader to ensure that programme inputs, activities and technical delivery are aligned to deliver the impact expected by the client and government partners.
Candidate Specification:
Key responsibilities:
- Overseeing planning, implementation, and monitoring of programme activities
- Providing technical expertise across programme thematic areas (e.g., girls’ education, inclusive education, teaching and learning, English Language, system strengthening)
- Coordination of the TREE technical team
- Managing relationships with government partners, civil society, academia, and other local entities
- Supporting the Team Leader as required
Skills & Qualification:
- Proven ability to work effectively with government entities, community organizations, academic institutions, and other development partners
- In-depth technical knowledge of key themes within educational reform, such as girls’ education, inclusive education, ELT and system strengthening
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including strong report writing
- Postgraduate degree in education, international development or other relevant field
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in international development organisations and programmes
