Build Sales Teams That Transform Communities

You've hit your targets. You've built teams that perform. You've probably even earned the respect that comes from consistently delivering in competitive markets. But here's the question worth sitting with: when your team closes a sale, does it actually change someone's life?

At M-KOPA, every sale your team makes unlocks access to essential products for customers who've been excluded from traditional financing. We're not selling nice-to-haves—we're financing smartphones, solar systems, and e-motorbikes that 55% of our customers are accessing for the very first time. And 70% use these products to generate income. That's not a marketing statistic. That's economic transformation happening one transaction at a time.

The Scale You'd Be Working With

M-KOPA has grown from 5 million to 7 million customers across Africa, unlocking more than $2 billion in credit for people the traditional financial system overlooked. We've assembled over 2 million smartphones in Kenya, financed more than 4,000 e-motorbikes (saving riders $5.62 daily in fuel costs), and built a network of 35,000 agents supported by 2,300+ employees. Our customers report an 86% improvement in quality of life—up from 79% just a year ago.

This isn't a company maintaining market position. This is deliberate, systematic growth toward 10 million customers, and we're building the sales infrastructure to get there.

Why This Role Is Different

Most sales management roles have you optimizing existing playbooks within established territories. This role asks you to build something. You'll recruit and develop your own team of Direct Sales Representatives, create local networks from scratch, and own the entire sales ecosystem in your region.

The difference? Your success isn't measured just in revenue. It's measured in how many families gain access to products that change their economic trajectory. When your DSR closes a smartphone sale, that customer might be starting their first mobile money business. When they finance a solar system, a child might be doing homework under electric light for the first time.

What Your Days Actually Look Like

You'll spend significant time in the field alongside your DSRs—not supervising from a distance, but actively developing their capabilities through real sales situations. You'll identify and recruit new representatives who share the hunger to build something meaningful. You'll manage inventory, ensuring your team has what they need when opportunities arise. You'll build relationships with local community leaders, shop owners, and influencers who can extend your network's reach.

Weekly, you'll analyze performance data, identify what's working, and adjust your approach. You'll prepare activity plans that balance aggressive growth with sustainable team development. And you'll problem-solve customer needs directly, because in this role, customer satisfaction isn't someone else's department—it's central to everything you build.

What Makes Someone Right for This

  • Proven ability to build and lead sales teams that consistently exceed targets, whether in retail, telecommunications, fibre sales, insurance, or similar industries where you've recruited, trained, and developed representatives to perform.

  • Track record of creating sales networks where you've expanded reach through local relationships, agent partnerships, or community-based selling approaches—not just managing existing channels, but actually building new ones.

  • Demonstrated coaching capability where you've taken underperforming salespeople and developed them into consistent producers through hands-on field support, not just performance reviews from behind a desk.

The Reality of This Role

This isn't a position where you manage from spreadsheets and weekly meetings. You'll be in communities, in markets, alongside your team when they're learning and when they're struggling. The demands are real—targets matter, performance is tracked, and accountability is constant.

But here's what makes it worth it: you'll watch people you recruited develop into skilled sales professionals. You'll see customers whose lives genuinely improve because your team reached them. And you'll be part of a growth story that's reshaping financial inclusion across Africa.

Educational credentials matter less here than demonstrated ability. If you've built successful sales teams without a degree, that track record speaks for itself. If you have formal qualifications, great—but it's your results that earn this role.
