We are looking for a Country Marketing Manager to join our Marketing team as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.

In this role, you will lead the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies that drive market growth, build brand equity, and directly contribute to revenue targets. Leading the local marketing function, you will work as both a strategic marketing leader and hands-on executor, combining brand-building initiatives with powerful trade marketing campaigns that drive sales through retail channels and DSR networks. This role requires a dynamic professional who can coordinate with our Global Marketing team on brand and above-the-line initiatives while designing and implementing impactful below-the-line campaigns that deliver measurable business results.

About Us

At M-KOPA, we are transforming lives by making financing for everyday essentials accessible to everyone. As pioneers in connected financing across Africa, we've proudly served over 7 million customers, deploying more than $2 billion in debt financing to support underbanked and unbanked individuals. Our product portfolio spans smartphones, digital cash loans, device protection, health insurance, and mobile data – all designed to unlock opportunities for those traditionally excluded from formal financial services.

As our Country Marketing Manager, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening customer trust and supporting our evolution into a fintech leader. You will translate M-KOPA's strategic vision of becoming a Smart Money Platform into compelling brand narratives and campaigns that resonate with local audiences. Your work will span the entire marketing spectrum – from strategic brand positioning and above-the-line campaigns to grassroots field activations and trade channel development. You'll manage marketing budgets, leverage data analytics to optimize ROI across media channels, create engaging social media content, manage online communities, and execute comprehensive through-the-line marketing strategies.

This role combines strategic thinking with tactical execution: developing quarterly marketing plans aligned with business objectives, leading integrated campaigns across digital and offline channels, building high-impact partnerships with local stakeholders, and driving innovation by adopting new marketing technologies and media formats. If you thrive in environments where brand-building meets performance marketing, where strategic vision translates into on-ground activations, and where your work directly impacts financial inclusion across Africa, this role is for you.

This is an on-site role, you would be working from our offices in Kenya, partnering with a diverse group of employees from our different markets and locations across the UK, Europe and Africa. You will be reporting to the Head of Business Management.

Expertise

We are looking for a dynamic marketing leader with 5-7 years of progressive marketing experience demonstrating success across brand marketing, below-the-line activation, partnerships, and digital marketing. Your background should ideally come from FMCG companies, Mobile Network Operators, mobile device companies, or BTL marketing agencies handling FMCG or telecommunications accounts. You must bring proven experience in both strategic marketing planning and hands-on trade marketing execution – we need someone equally comfortable developing annual marketing strategies and rolling up their sleeves to execute market activations.

Strong trade marketing expertise is essential. You should have demonstrated experience developing and executing BTL strategies for retail partners and distribution networks, including dealer incentive programs, consumer promotions, in-store merchandising, point-of-sale materials, and field marketing activations such as roadshows, market storms, and community events. Understanding of Kenya's retail landscape – modern trade, general trade, and informal markets – is critical for success in this role.

You must be highly proficient with digital marketing and social media platforms, particularly Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and emerging channels. Experience with social media performance management tools, analytics platforms like Supermetrics and Looker Studio, and paid advertising systems is required. You should demonstrate ability to create engaging multimedia content, manage online communities, develop content calendars, and optimize campaigns based on performance data.

The ideal candidate brings 2-3 years of team management experience with proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire marketing professionals to deliver excellence. You should demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, represent marketing in cross-functional forums, and build productive partnerships with product, sales, digital, and commercial teams.

Data-driven decision-making is fundamental to this role. You must be comfortable with marketing analytics and reporting tools, capable of tracking campaign performance metrics, demonstrating ROI, establishing attribution models, and using insights to continuously optimize marketing investments. Commercial acumen and results-orientation are essential – we need someone who understands how marketing drives revenue and can connect campaign activities to business outcomes.

We value candidates with excellent written and verbal communication skills, creative problem-solving abilities, strong organizational and project management capabilities, and meticulous attention to detail. You should have a field-oriented mindset with willingness to spend 30-40% of your time in market, conducting store visits, assessing execution standards, and gathering competitive intelligence. Experience managing marketing budgets, negotiating with partners and agencies, and working in fast-moving environments with frequent change will serve you well. If you're a high achiever with a self-starter mentality who thrives under pressure, demonstrates urgency in accomplishing objectives, and wants to build a brand that transforms lives across Africa, we want to meet you.
