Job Summary
The Senior Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing health, safety and environmental policies and procedures in accordance with local regulations. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that employees in their organization work in a safe environment; identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing solutions to prevent injuries or illness from occurring.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage and implement the health and safety regulation and policies to ensure the health and safety of the employee and the assets.
  • Complies with all relevant safety, quality, health and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans and procedures.
  • Develop and implement waste management plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate and administer the Health & Safety committee meeting
  • Ensure incident investigations are done for all incidents
  • Ensure Safety, health and environment induction of new employees, visitors and contractors conducted
  • Ensure that all employees are trained in the proper use of safety equipment and procedures, and that all safety equipment is properly maintained.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure health and safety rules and regulations are met.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, and ensure that all safety-related incidents are properly documented, investigated and reported.
  • Develop and implement waste management plans and procedures.
  • Ensure that all incidents are properly documented and investigated, and that corrective actions are taken to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues..
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in Amharic and English.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • HSE certification is a plus
  • Language: English and Amharic. Afan oromo is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment and adapt to evolving challenges.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of federal health, safety and environmental regulations.
