About Kabisa

Kabisa is building the future of electric mobility in East Africa. We sell and lease electric vehicles, operate East Africa’s largest public charging network, and maintain EVs. Our vision is to fully electrify East African passenger and freight transport. We are a fast-growing, mission-driven company working with logistics operators, corporates, and fleet owners across the region.

Location: Kigali, Rwanda (with occasional travel within Rwanda/East Africa)

Role Overview

The Finance Manager is responsible for running Kabisa’s finance and accounting function in Rwanda day-to-day. You will own accounting and reporting, manage cash and working capital, ensure compliance with Rwanda tax and statutory requirements, and provide financial insight to help the business scale. This is a hands-on role for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and excited to build a high-performing operating company.

As Finance Manager, you are helping build one of the leading electric mobility businesses in East Africa. You will:

Grow with the business: As Kabisa expands across Rwanda and the region, strong performers can grow into senior leadership positions (e.g., Head of Finance or Regional Finance Lead).

Build a world-class finance function: You’ll design the systems, controls, and reporting that support a high-integrity, scalable business.

Work directly with founders, banks, and auditors: You’ll have exposure to company leadership and key external stakeholders, including lenders, suppliers, and professional advisors.

Build a legacy: The processes and culture you create today will shape how Kabisa operates for years—and will enable thousands of drivers and customers to transition to electric transport.

If you are looking for a place where your talent has a visible impact on customers, regional transport, and the environment, this is it.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Own the monthly close: post accruals, reconcile accounts, and ensure clean, timely reporting.

  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in Kabisa’s accounting system (Xero).

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments, invoicing, and collections.

  • Prepare monthly management reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and key KPI dashboards.

  • Track and account for fleet assets, inventory, and major projects (e.g., charging infrastructure) in line with IFRS policies and internal guidelines.

    Cash, Treasury & Working Capital

  • Maintain a rolling cash forecast and working capital plan (weekly and monthly).

  • Manage bank accounts, payment runs, approval workflows, and FX transactions.

  • Coordinate payments for imports, freight, and suppliers—including support for LC documentation where applicable.

  • Monitor receivables and actively drive collections to minimize overdue balances and bad debt risk.

    Budgeting, FP&A & Business Partnering

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly reforecasting, partnering with operations and sales.

  • Build and maintain financial models for growth initiatives (e.g., fleet leasing, charging hubs, new country expansion).

  • Support pricing and unit economics analysis (e.g., customer profitability, cost per km comparisons, margin analysis).

  • Track performance versus budget and propose corrective actions based on data.

    Tax, Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure accurate and on-time statutory and tax filings in Rwanda (e.g., VAT, PAYE, withholding taxes, corporate income tax as applicable).

  • Maintain robust documentation and internal controls for purchases, payments, and expense claims.

  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for annual audit and compliance work.

  • Support reporting requirements for grants, lenders, or investors where applicable.

    Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Train and grow the accounting team and support staff.

  • Train non-finance colleagues on finance processes, documentation standards, and expense policies.

  • Liaise with banks, suppliers, OEMs, and regulators to provide required financial documents and support commercial operations.

    Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Improve finance processes, SOPs, and automation to increase accuracy, speed, and auditability.

  • Maintain a clear digital filing system and audit trail for contracts, invoices, payroll, and tax documentation.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve margins, and reduce financial and compliance risk.

Qualifications

  • Strong accounting foundation: with 5+ years of experience in accounting/finance (SME, operations, logistics, energy, or mobility sectors are a plus).

  • Professional training: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance (or related field). ACCA/CPA qualification (or progress toward it) is strongly preferred.

  • IFRS and audit readiness: experience with monthly close, reconciliations, and working with auditors.

  • Rwanda compliance expertise: practical knowledge of Rwanda tax rules, payroll compliance, and statutory reporting.

  • Excellent spreadsheet skills: advanced Excel/Google Sheets; ability to build models and dashboards.

  • Systems mindset: experience with accounting tools (Xero or similar) and comfort learning new systems.

  • High integrity and attention to detail: reliable, accurate, and able to handle confidential information.

  • Clear communication: able to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues and external stakeholders.

  • Entrepreneurial attitude: proactive, resourceful, and comfortable building processes from the ground up.

  • Languages: English required; Kinyarwanda and/or French is a plus.
