Communications Assistant, Kiwa Local Projects Component A

The Communications Assistant will provide day-to-day support to Kiwa LPC to implement the Kiwa Communication Strategy and ensure that communication processes, guidelines and products are delivered in a timely, effective and accurate manner according to the programme’s annual, quarterly and weekly communication activities and work plans.
1. Visibility and Branding
• Support Kiwa LPC in development of communications materials and the documentation of project activities, lessons, milestones and successes in the form of human-interest stories, video and photo stories for internal and external dissemination.
• He / she will also support media engagement as part of awareness raising.
• Assist in the development and production of communications materials through basic graphic designing and basic video editing in line with Kiwa branding guidelines.
• Assist the Regional Communications Manager in the implementation of Kiwa Initiative agreed communications and visibility plans.
• Contribute to promoting the visibility of Kiwa projects, programmes and the organisation and aligning them with IUCN’s integrity and values and Kiwa communication guidelines.
2. Knowledge Products management and Events Support
• Assist in facilitating the development and production of knowledge products and communications materials.
• Maintain a good relationship with vendors and business suppliers and ensure the correct procurement procedures are followed in the development of knowledge products and communications materials.
• Assist in providing communications support at IUCN Kiwa programme events or partner events as and when required.
• Assist in providing logistical support to all Kiwa local, regional and international events.
3. Media Relations, social media and Online Digital Platform management
• Assist based on advice from the ORO Regional Communications Manager and Kiwa AFD Secretariate Communications.
Generate and support dissemination of Kiwa LPC messages to the public, stakeholders and in ensuring that the media and communication partnerships are kept regularly updated and informed in the process.
• Assist in engaging and maintaining relationships with all media by responding to press requests on the advice of the Communications Manager and connecting the Kiwa grantees with viable media opportunities.
• Assist in drafting; press releases and communication materials required and ensure proper IUCN and Kiwa clearance and approval processes are followed before releasing to the various parties concerned.
• Assist the Regional Communications Manager in looking after Kiwa webpage and IUCN Oceania Regional Office (ORO) website and online digital platform, social media accounts and printed knowledge assets.
• Assist in the development of IUCN Kiwa quarterly newsletter and messaging updates on other Kiwa partners and AFD Kiwa newsletters.
• In the absence of the Regional Communications Manager, provide direct support in general to communication roles in programmes or projects in coordination with the Kiwa Project Coordinator and the Programme Coordinators for effective communication. This would entail copying him/her in on all relevant correspondences.
• Work closely with the Regional Communications Manager in developing and implementing the IUCN Kiwa communications strategy and schedule of activities throughout the year.
• Work with the Kiwa LPC team and Kiwa Secretariat to periodically update the Kiwa LPC factsheets.
• Maintain an updated list of media contacts, press, government agencies, and partners.
4. Other Duties
• Perform other duties as assigned by Regional Communications Manager or line manager, consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
