Background

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), under its project “Geographic prioritization tool for agricultural investments in Madagascar: An application of stochastic frontier analysis” funded by the European Union (EU), seeks a Consultant to provide research assistance in its Markets, Trade, and Institutions (MTI) unit. The purpose of this project is to support the EU in program due diligence, research and analysis. IFPRI will build a typology to identify the agricultural potential of each of Madagascar's micro-regions, which will help prioritize investments in agriculture and other related sectors across the country.

IFPRI is seeking a qualified consultant to conduct spatial analysis tasks and manage GIS data.

Scope of work

· Prepare GIS data for matching with household survey data for Madagascar.

· Construct market accessibility (travel time) models for Madagascar.

· Generate stochastic frontier analysis typology maps for Madagascar with estimates provided by the IFPRI research team.

· Simulate and map the impact of investments in Madagascar.

Required qualifications of the consultant

· Master’s degree in Geography, or related field.

· Minimum of 12 years of experience in these fields.

· Proficiency in ArcGIS.

Preferred qualifications

· Experience in agricultural economics, rural development, nutrition, and/or food security field.
