A Quality Specialist in Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Platework (SMPP) ensures projects meet quality standards and industry regulations, overseeing fabrication, installation, and inspection across these disciplines. Possess a strong understanding of structural steel, mechanical components, piping systems, and platework fabrication techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and approve fabrication drawings and procedures.
• Provide technical guidance and support to fabrication and installation teams.
• Ensure adherence to relevant codes, standards, and regulations
• Develop and implement quality control plans and procedures.
• Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Identify and address quality issues or non-conformances.
• Maintain quality records and documentation.
• Participate in project planning and scheduling.
• Monitor project progress and identify potential quality risks.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and quality delivery.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
• Stay up to date with industry’s best practices and emerging technologies.

Qualifications and Experience

• a relevant technical diploma or degree, plus several years of experience in construction, quality assurance, and knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
• A minimum of several years of experience in construction, ideally within a relevant industry (e.g., mining, petrochemical, manufacturing), including mining projects in a similar EPCM.
• Appropriate qualification related to the type of inspections to be conducted
• Experience with control systems, transformers, power distribution systems, fire, gas and HVAC systems
• Experience with high voltage equipment, switch gear, UPS and emergency back-up power systems
• Ability to work with vendors/contractors and develop good working relationships
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
• Must be familiar with ISO 9001
• Excellent verbal and communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• High attention to detail
• Ability to make decisions
• Report writing skills
• Computer skills.
• Quality control and inspection experience with respect to fabrication and construction
• Knowledge of engineering, procurement, document control, change management, project controls, safety, environmental, industrial relations, construction, resource and risk management
• Quality assurance experience with respect to project compliance and adherence to procedures and policies
• EX (Explosion Proof) Hazardous Location Training
• EPCM exposure.
