A Quality Specialist in Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Platework (SMPP) ensures projects meet quality standards and industry regulations, overseeing fabrication, installation, and inspection across these disciplines. Possess a strong understanding of structural steel, mechanical components, piping systems, and platework fabrication techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and approve fabrication drawings and procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to fabrication and installation teams.
- Ensure adherence to relevant codes, standards, and regulations
- Develop and implement quality control plans and procedures.
- Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Identify and address quality issues or non-conformances.
- Maintain quality records and documentation.
- Participate in project planning and scheduling.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential quality risks.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and quality delivery.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
- Stay up to date with industry’s best practices and emerging technologies.
Qualifications and Experience
- a relevant technical diploma or degree, plus several years of experience in construction, quality assurance, and knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
- A minimum of several years of experience in construction, ideally within a relevant industry (e.g., mining, petrochemical, manufacturing), including mining projects in a similar EPCM.
- Appropriate qualification related to the type of inspections to be conducted
- Experience with control systems, transformers, power distribution systems, fire, gas and HVAC systems
- Experience with high voltage equipment, switch gear, UPS and emergency back-up power systems
- Ability to work with vendors/contractors and develop good working relationships
- Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
- Must be familiar with ISO 9001
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Good analytical skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to make decisions
- Report writing skills
- Computer skills.
- Quality control and inspection experience with respect to fabrication and construction
- Knowledge of engineering, procurement, document control, change management, project controls, safety, environmental, industrial relations, construction, resource and risk management
- Quality assurance experience with respect to project compliance and adherence to procedures and policies
- EX (Explosion Proof) Hazardous Location Training
- EPCM exposure.
