Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive Solar Project Manager to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. Reporting to the Head of Projects and COO as required, you will be responsible for the effective planning, procurement and execution of solar projects. This role emphasizes end-to-end project management, including project scheduling, procurement planning, supplier negotiations, contract preparation and review.

You will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification, while maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Scheduling

● Develop detailed project plans and schedules using Microsoft Project or similar tools.

● Define project scope, timelines, deliverables, and resource requirements in collaboration with engineering teams.

● Identify and manage the critical path to ensure timely completion of milestones.

  1. Procurement Management

● Prepare procurement plans aligned with project schedules and budgets.

● Draft purchase orders (POs), obtain technical specifications from engineers, and source quotations from suppliers.

● Lead supplier evaluations, negotiations, and contract preparations (including FIDIC) to ensure cost-effective and quality delivery.

● Maintain vendor relationships and manage performance throughout the project lifecycle.

  1. Project Execution and Oversight

● Oversee day-to-day implementation of solar projects, ensuring alignment with approved plans and technical specifications.

● Conduct site visits with project engineers to supervise progress, verify quality standards, and ensure safety compliance.

● Manage procurement-related logistics, including material deliveries and subcontractor coordination.

  1. Stakeholder Communication and Reporting

● Provide regular updates on project status, procurement progress, and budget tracking to senior management and clients.

● Prepare detailed reports covering project milestones, risks, and cost management.

  1. Document Control and Compliance

● Manage project documentation including contracts, POs, permits, schedules, financial records, and meeting minutes.

● Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and contractual obligations.

  1. Budget and Risk Management

● Track project costs, against budgets and identify opportunities for savings, managing project cashflow to remain in the positive (payment milestones vs incoming funds).

● Develop strategies to mitigate procurement and scheduling risks.

  1. Quality Assurance and Handover

● Ensure that procurement meets required technical standards and certifications.

● Oversee testing, commissioning, and project handover with complete documentation.

Desired Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, or a related field.

● At least 5 years of professional experience in project planning, procurement, and management, ideally in renewable energy or construction.

● Proven track record in procurement planning, drafting POs, supplier sourcing, negotiations, and contract preparation.

● Strong skills in project management tools, especially Microsoft Project.

● Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

● Knowledge of local regulations, building codes, and grid interconnection standards.

● PMP or equivalent certification is an added advantage
